Assessments and Testing:

This email is a reminder that annual Smarter Balanced and WCAS Science state testing has been postponed until Fall 2021. We will continue with the required ELL and AIM testing this spring, but all other state required standardized testing will be rescheduled after the start of next school year.

Current 11th and 12th Grade Students: Please check in with your Graduation Specialist for information on how to stay on track for graduation. We have options to help you graduate on time, even if you haven’t yet taken or passed the Smarter Balanced exams!

Current Grades 3-11th Grade Students: All testing this spring has been postponed to fall 2021 due to the COVID19 emergency. You will receive more information and your testing schedule after school starts in the fall. Testing dates are not set, but will likely be sometime in October or November. Please note that the fall testing window will not replace next spring’s testing, and you will be scheduled to test twice next year – once in the fall to make up for 2021, then again in spring 2022 for our regularly scheduled state standardized testing.

As an online choice school serving students state-wide, we have a unique opportunity to maintain standards of instruction and continue to facilitate learning during this challenging time. Please continue to attend your classes and work toward your education.

We want all our families, staff, and students to stay safe. During this difficult time, please continue to take the same necessary steps to protect yourself against coronavirus that we take to prevent the spread of illnesses such as the flu.

All individuals are encouraged to:

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

While these measures are simple, they work.

Washington Virtual Academies and Insight Washington encourages the use and promotion of verified sources of information about the flu and coronavirus. On the national level, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides “Guidance for School Administrators to Help Reduce the Spread of Seasonal Influenza in K-12 Schools” on its website (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/school/guidance.htm) and information on the rapidly changing coronavirus situation (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/about/index.html).

We will miss seeing your faces this spring, but look forward to being a continued resource for you as you complete this school year. It is our hope that we will be able to provide this educational service next year, and look forward to seeing everyone.

Stay safe and healthy, and continue to reach out to your Teachers, Advisors, and Graduation Specialists for support.

-Ms. Beyer, WAVA Assessment Administrator
