The mission of Omaha North High Magnet School is to
prepare all students for success in life-long studies and careers.
Metro Science and Engineering Fair
Omaha North had 3 students recognized at the Metro Science and Engineering Fair on Saturday, March 10.
Sophomore Maliik Jones qualified for the Nebraska Junior Academy of Sciences (NJAS) state science fair, to be held at Nebraska Wesleyan on Thursday, April 19. Maliik placed among the Top 6 overall out of over 90 projects. He earned 1st place in the "Animal Behavior: Enrichment" Category. Maliik is the 7th Omaha North student to advance to NJAS in the past 4 years.
Senior Edward Niemann placed second in the "Bioinformatics, Computational Biology and Mathematics" Category and won two special awards, totaling over $150 in cash:
- Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association - Greater Omaha Chapter (cash award and recognition at a chapter meeting at the Offutt AFB Patriot Club)
- Association of Information Technology Professionals - Omaha Chapter ($50)
Senior Veda Armbrust, as part of her enrollment with the Career Center Zoo Academy, placed 3rd in the "Animal Behavior" Category.
Greater Nebraska Science and Engineering Fair
Three Omaha North students, including two who conducted research as part of their participation in the Zoo Academy, won awards at the ISEF Greater Nebraska Science and Engineering Fair on March 24-25 in Nebraska City.
Senior Veda Armbrust, with research she completed as a Zoo Academy student, earned 1st Place in Animal Sciences for her research “The Effect of a Simulated Natural Environment on Notophthalmus perstriatus Breeding.”
Junior Zoo Academy student Gabrielle Push earned 3rd Place in Animal Sciences for “Solving the Herd Brain.”
Junior Sydney Hamilton was recognized by the American Psychological Society for the “Outstanding Project in Behavioral and Social Sciences,” for her project “Group Cell Phone Usage: Known Peers versus Unknown Peers.”
GNSEF serves as the eastern Nebraska regional qualifier for the International Science and Engineering Fair, with participating students from as far west as Central City and David City, as far north as Wayne, and south to the Kansas border competing for two spots to compete at the international competition.

Girls Who Code Event at Hayneedle
Omaha North Alum, Shonna Dorsey, VP of Sales & Marketing at the AIM Institute, was featured as the keynote speaker.
Current North Senior, Grace Erixon, was included on the Fireside Chat Panel to talk about her experiences and answer questions.

- Biodiversity Field Science, June 24-30 at UNL Cedar Point Biological Station (Lake McConaughy)
For the past 10 years, each summer more than 100 youths attend YNS camps, which include hands-on science experiences and recreation opportunities at college campuses throughout Nebraska. Community Counseling Program Aids Students
Methodist Hospital Community Counseling Program provides mental health services to students. Confidential counseling is provided by an experienced, licensed, master’s-level mental health practitioner in office space provided by Omaha North High Magnet School. Acceptable forms of payment include Medicaid, private insurance or self-pay. Foundation and payment plans are available. No one will be denied services due to inability to pay.
The Methodist Hospital Community Counselor at Omaha North High Magnet School is Roxanne Wayne. Roxanne has been working with youth and families in the mental health field, for over 15 years. She works with youth and adults in many areas such as anxiety, depression, developing healthy coping skills, resolving family issues, grief and loss, anger and stress management.
