Newton's Three Laws of Motion

1) An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

2) Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass (of the object being accelerated) the greater the amount of force needed (to accelerate the object).

3) For every action there is an equal and opposite re-action.

My car was at rest, and stayed at rest until the rubber band was wound up. The rubber band was a force that acted on my vehicle. When my car was in motion, it only slowed down because friction (a force) acted on the axle to slow it down.

Newton's 2nd Law


My car has mass. When a force, in this case then tension from the rubber band, acted on it, it accelerated. I made my car as light as possible so that it required a smaller amount of mass to accelerate.
