First grade helps out on Earth Day!

Chromebooks have invaded grade 5!

Students in Mrs. Remscheid's class work to complete a project using Chromebooks. Students report they enjoy the Chromebooks because they can be more creative, have more fun and collaborate more easily.

Tinker Tuesday has begun!

Welcome to the 21st century! Our own Galway Scholars are participating in Tinker Tuesday in cooperation with the Galway Public Library. Students are able to use their science, technology, engineering and mathematic skills to turn any object into an internet-connected device. Automated doorbells, curtains opening at sunrise or remote controlled pet feeders are just some ideas our students bring to life. Please click the attached link to the library's Facebook page to view action videos of our students hard at work.

JHE Congratulates Mrs. Flinton!

Congratulations go out to Mrs. Jeanine Flinton. She completed the training needed to be a certified master teacher in PLTW. We are proud to have her working at JHE and look forward to the additional opportunities her knowledge and expertise will provide our students.

Yearbooks

It is not too late to order a yearbook. Pre-orders are done but books are still available on a first come, first served basis. Books are due to be delivered at the end of May. The cost is $19.26 which includes NYS sales tax. Please email Dave Nettleton at djnettle@galwaycsd.org, with any questions. All checks should be made out to Galway CSD and be returned to Dave Nettleton.

Back to School BBQ

The Elementary Building Team (EBT) is busy planning our Back to School BBQ. The BBQ will take place on Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Please mark your calendars. Invitations will be coming soon. The evening is a great time to take a walk through the building, put items away in your lockers and stroll through your classroom.

Class assignments 2015-16

Class assignments will once again be mailed home over the summer. This additional time allows for a thorough review of the student character forms and yearly data summaries provided by the teachers. Well-balanced classrooms increase success for all students.

School Day

As we plan for next year we wish to reiterate our school hours. School hours are 7:50-3:30. We have our first dismissal from 2:20-2:35. This dismissal includes most children. Our second dismissal is from 3:20-3:35 and is for students required to attend after school RTI lab in math or reading, participate in enrichment or attend pre-approved school sponsored events. We are very fortunate to provide the additional time and transportation for our students and one of very few schools able to do so. Our after school RTI lab is a required program and students who qualify to receive services are expected to participate. Our goal is to work diligently with any student required to stay and help him/her reach expected benchmarks. As students show growth and reach the expected benchmarks they no longer need to attend.

Math Facts in a Flash!

Congratulations to the April winners for mastering the most levels in their grade. These students will be entered into a drawing to win an iPod at the end of the year. Keep up the great work. Automaticity is the key!

JHE enjoys Homespun Dancing

Peter Davis, Paul Rosenberg and George Wilson captured the attention of JHE students by leading them in traditional dance and music routines as part of an Arts in Education program held at the elementary school. The repertoire consists of contra, square and international folk dances accompanied by lively reels, jigs, polkas and waltzes.
