Christ Child Academy Newsletter
November 7, 2019
From the Desk of Mr. Ruedinger
The first quarter ends tomorrow, Friday, November 8. Report cards for grades 1 - 8 will be sent home on Thursday, November 14.
As the temperatures drop, I wanted to remind parents to make sure children are prepared for the weather. Our policy is to go outside each recess unless the AccuWeather app RealFeel temp is below "0". Only students with snow pants AND winter boots may play on the grass or playground equipment with snow on the ground. Otherwise, students must stay on the blacktop portion of the playground during recess.
ALL students in 4K-8th grade should be wearing a winter coat each day. Students in grades K-5 go outside for recess three times a day. All middle school students go outside for 20 minutes each day for lunch recess.
No Carrier today.
Parenting in the 21st Century
Creating a Learning Environment in your Home
A home learning environment is a reflection of the overall home environment and family interactions in and around the home. “For me, a learning environment is one where we adults show that we ourselves are continuous learners and allow them the kids the space to explore, try new things, and take learning as a fun and daily part of their life,” says Sudiksha Joshi, a learning advocate and founder of WeAreAlwaysLearning.com.
Check out this article for great tips in creating a home learning environment for your children.
Standards Based Grading
During this school year, Christ Child Academy will be transitioning from a traditional grading system to standards based grading system, which will go into effect for the 2020-2021 school year. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has strongly recommended that all schools move to this reporting framework.
As we proceed through this transition over the next year, please know that our goal of academic excellence remains our priority. These "best practices" will enable parents to fully understand where their child is academically while at the same time motivating students to become life-learners.
The Parenting Guide to Standards Based Grading will provide valuable insight during this transition. Additional information will be coming in the following weeks.

Cup Stacking Event
On November 14th, the Student Service Council will be hosting the world record cup stacking event. Christ Child Academy will try to get into the Guinness Book of World Records again this year! Last year we helped set the world record with 624,390 people stacking in one day. Speed stacking or cup stacking can be an individual or team sport. This sport is played worldwide and involves stacking plastic cups in a number of sequences as fast as you can. Players can compete against each other or for a time. Those that participate work on their hand-eye coordination and ambidexterity.
All students K-8 will participate during their lunch recess.
Check out the World Sport Stacking Association web page for more information and to see if we will make our goal of 635,000 participants! https://www.thewssa.com/stackup/2019/?

Your gift will also enable us to maintain affordable tuition for all families.
You will be receiving an Annual Fund Contribution Form in the mail in November to donate or you may visit our online site at the link below. Feel free to share this link with all your friends and family via social media.
We appreciate your support and you may donate to this fund until June 30, 2020.

WINTER EXTRAVAGANZA 2020
Winter Extravaganza is set for Saturday, February 22, 2020 and will be held at the Village at 170, Kohler. We hope that everyone has this date marked on their calendars and are planning to attend. The event is open to the public, so gather your friends and family and get ready for a good time! We are looking for some additional people to join our planning committee. If you are interested, please email the Development Director at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Invitations and Reservation forms will be sent home in the next carrier.
We are also looking for parents to assist the teaching staff in creating one of a kind "baskets" for our auction. Each grade will be creating a personalized themed basket and these parents would be in charge of assisting with ideas, gathering items, ordering supplies, setting up personalization time with the teacher, etc. If this sounds like something that you would be interested in, sign up before November 15th.
