This Week in Religious Education

What is happening for children, youth, and families at OUUC

Fall Plans Are Coming Together

Although summer weather and summer routines are still firmly here, the prep and planning for the Fall and the new church year are going on. A few updates for you all:

  • The 2nd Sunday lunches will be returning in September, and will now be followed by a "2nd Hour" with both the Soul Matters Sharing Circle and a Active Opportunity. This means you can stay after lunch and either feed head and heart or heart and hands. All ages welcome in the Actions, and childcare will also be available. September's Action will be hosted by the Buildings and Grounds committee and be a work party outdoors on the grounds.
  • The High School Youth Group will be meeting on the 2nd and the 4th Sundays this year, so that they can be part of the 2nd Sunday 2nd Hour.
  • We will be hosting a Young Adult Lunch on the 1st Sunday of each month, for ages 18-30. YA Lunches will begin in October.
  • Our Whole Lives for 7th-8th grade will be offered on Wednesday evenings this year, 6:30-8:30.

Much more is in the works, so watch for more information and announcements! Also, registration forms for the 2018-2019 program year will be coming soon.

This Sunday's Classes

For the summer months, we will only have nursery care for the 9:15 service.

At the 11:00 service, there will be nursery care and the Maker Space class for preschool to 5th grade. Each Sunday features a Guest Maker from the congregation and then time for hands on making, tinkering, crafting, and having fun.

Our Whole Lives is a comprehensive, holistic, values-based sexuality education program. Learn more at:

This year the 7th-8th grade program will be offered on Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30pm. It is a school-year long program. All 7th and 8th graders (or the homeschooled equivalent) are welcome, whether or not they attend OUUC or are Unitarian Universalists. Class size is limited to 16 participants, email to reserve a spot.

Parents or legal guardians must attend the mandatory Parent Orientation or make arrangements in advance to meet with our Director of Religious Education, Sara Lewis, for a make-up orientation. Dinner will be provided, youth do not need to attend. Contact Sara if you need to arrange childcare.

RSVPs are enabled for this event.

The New Church Year is Coming Fast! We still need some volunteers ....

1) The Labyrinth Learning Class, for 1st-5th grade, needs 5 more assistants to join the team. This class is taught/led by our staff teacher, Anisa Bentlemsani. Assistants help with classroom management and run “stations” with activities that kids can choose among.

The time commitment is once a month, signing up for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Sundays. To apply, please talk to our DRE, Sara Lewis, or 360.786.6383

2) The High School Youth Group needs 3-4 more advisors. The High School Group meets at 12:30 on the 2nd and the 4th Sundays of the month, and plans occasional other events, overnights, and field trips. Advisors work with our DRE, Sara Lewis, to guide, facilitate, and chaperone the youth.

The time commitment is about once a month, and the preference is for volunteers to make a commitment of more than one year for the purpose of long-term mentorship and relationship building. To apply, please talk to our DRE, Sara Lewis, at or 360.786.6383
