TROYBERY 2024
Dear Smith families,
Mrs. Chatel, our media specialist, is excited to announce the TSD middle school Media Center’s 24th annual Troybery Reading Program potential nominees list. We have an excellent field of 28 books this year, all books published in 2022 and recommended by Troy students and teachers. You can access the list here: https://bit.ly/troybery2024
The Troybery list is known for having a variety of books reflecting our students’ diverse interests, age levels, and backgrounds. Our goal is to promote a love for reading in our students. We encourage students to participate in our program by reading as many as they would like and by voting for their favorites. Mrs. Chatel is happy to work with your child to find the “just right” book for them from the list.
A Troybery book could be an excellent choice if you are looking for a gift idea this holiday season. Your child will hear a presentation in the upcoming weeks about the Troybery program and our exciting selections.
You can visit the Troy Middle Schools Media Center website for more information about Troybery.

SMITH ORCHESTRA HOLIDAY CONCERT
Congratulations to our amazing Smith Orchestra Ensembles and our orchestra directors, Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Xydas, on a great concert this past week! Our students played wonderfully!
We are excited to share that our 8th grade Advanced Orchestra has been selected as 1 of 8 ensembles to play at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids this January. More than 60 of the top performing ensembles from across the state submitted audition recordings last year and Smith earned a spot at this prestigious event!
SMITH WINTER PEP ASSEMBLY!
Winter Pep Assembly with a special SURPRISE!
The Smith Knights celebrated the 7th and 8th grade basketball teams as well as recognized our competitive cheerleaders. Participants of the following clubs were also recognized: Intramural Basketball, History Club, Model UN, Quiz Bowl, International Club, Chess Club, Robotics, WEB and Student Council. We have a tremendous number of students participating in extracurriculars this winter and it's so fun to see. For the winter pep assembly, we held a basketball game, dodgeball game, and a 4-way tug of war. Parents signed up to be the special SURPRISE who participated against their children. It was a great time seeing them compete against each other and the parents truly dominated the games.
Thank you to all those who signed up and we hope to do more events that bring the parents and the community into Smith. Mr. Koneval will be adding more pictures and videos to the SMS website.
