Building a Brighter Future, Edition 4- August 20, 2021

Wrapping up a Great Week!

Today we ended our first full week of the school year, and it was a great one! We have spent the week getting to know our teachers, learning all the procedures, and making new friends! I was able to go into several classrooms this week and read a book titled, The Bad Seed. In this book, the seed starts out good, but then some hard times happen, and he begins having a hard time making good choices. Later in the book, he decides he wants to be good again and makes the change happen. The lesson I left the students with was that THEY have the power to make changes in themselves. Anything they want to do better, they can! The goals our students have for themselves are awesome- from handstands, to being kind to our brothers and sisters, to becoming better readers!

Help Us Keep Things Running Smoothly!

**If you are waiting in line, please make sure you are not blocking the entrances to the Lazy Hollows Condos on Travis Drive or the business entrances on Civic Drive. We want to be considerate of all our neighbors!

*You can really help us out by not using the parking spaces in the mornings unless you have an emergency. We are tight on parking spots and it's becoming difficult for our teachers to find a place to park. Thank you for understanding!

*Drop-off begins at 7:15 at our Civic Drive and Travis Drive locations. The front entrance is reserved for bus riders only.

*Help us remind your students to head to the cafeteria first if they need breakfast in the mornings. (It's free for all students!)

*PK-1st pick-up is on Civic Drive

*2nd-3rd pick-up is on Travis Drive

*ALL siblings pick-up is on Travis Drive

*Keep your yellow car tag displayed until your student(s) are loaded in your car

*Please do not exit your car. No walk-up pickups will be allowed without an orange dismissal tag.

COVID Questions Answered

Q: How will I know if my student has been exposed?

A: If your student is determined to be a close contact of a student who has tested positive for COVID, you will be personally notified. If your child is in the same grade level as a student who has tested positive, you will receive an email.

Q: Are masks required?

A: LVISD does not require students, parents, teachers, staff members or visitors to wear masks or face coverings while on district premises. However, the wearing of face masks is allowed and is highly encouraged.

Q: Can I choose for my child to do at-home/remote learning this year?

A: The state has not provided for a funded remote instruction option this school year. Students not at school will be under normal attendance requirements. Exceptions to this are students who are isolated because of a positive COVID result or who are quarantined due to being a COVID close contact.

Water Bottles Needed!

Students are not currently able to drink from the water fountains as a COVID precaution, but they are allowed to use them to fill their water bottles. Please send your child with a reusable water bottle labeled with their name.
