Hello everyone-

I hope you and your family are doing well! We have finished up our benchmarking process and will begin providing students with a variety of additional supports beginning this week. If you child has been identified to receive additional support from one of our interventionists, a letter will be coming home in the backpack early this week. Teachers will also begin providing supplementary instruction to students based on identified skill gaps from the benchmark assessments.

Please reach out at any time to share any questions, concerns, or ideas. I am here to help and support you and your family. Thanks for all you do to help keep our students and staff safe.

Take Care-

Angeline

Social, Mental, and Emotional Health- a Goal within the KSD 5 Year Strategic Plan

This week we hit a few different topics: taking ownership/responsibility, empathy, and standing up against peer pressure.

Please watch the videos below with your child to see the stories again or for the first time.

Supporting Staff Wellness- Focusing on Relationships

We have been providing staff with time to make intentional connections with each other as colleagues. Our 3-5 grade students have identified staff members that they feel are trusted adults. This Friday afternoon, staff will be looking at our students and ensuring that every child has an adult in the building that can check in on them and be a positive support for them.

Thank you for helping us to support our staff wellbeing.

New Halloween Plans for Robinson- Friday, October 29

This year we will once again be doing the Halloween Parade from Robinson to Aberdeen Heights. Our parade will take place in the afternoon of October 29th once we are finished with all of our lunches. Students should bring a costume in a bag with their name on it. Here are some guidelines:

  1. NO Scary masks- this scares the younger kiddos
  2. NO face paint- kids will not have time to do this
  3. Kids must be able to put their costumes on independently
  4. Do NOT wear your costume to school

Due to Covid we will NOT be having classroom parties with visitors in the classrooms after the parade. PTO is organizing an event to allow parents to participate in the fun directly following the parade on our school campus (outdoors). PTO will communicate additional details in next week's newsletter. If you would like to help us plan this fun event, please join us Monday, September 27th at 4:00 at Robinson. We'd love to have more helpers with this event.

Please email robinsonpto@kirkwoodschools.org. if you'd like to help plan but can't make the meeting tomorrow.

Want to volunteer or chaperone?

I wanted to provide an update regarding volunteers in the district. According to Administrative Procedure IICC: School Volunteers, there are three categories of volunteers - Chaperones, Volunteers, and Screened Volunteers.

As you can see, chaperones are defined as:

A volunteer, usually a parent or guardian, who assists the district staff and is under the direct control of district staff but is never left alone with a student. Chaperones include room parents or persons who volunteer to assist with field days, field trips, class parties or other special occasions.

The Raptor check will suffice for those Chaperones until November 1. The Raptor check is a temporary solution in this instance but does not allow anyone who has not completed a background check and has been approved by HR to be alone with students under any circumstances.

Those wanting to participate in future events as a volunteer will need to complete the volunteer form.

Book Fair Coming in October

The Robinson PTO Scholastic Book Fair is BACK! We are SO excited to be able to hold the book fair in our own library again. We invite you to come and help us make this year's book fair our most successful one yet! We need volunteers to help us set up the bookfair, run the cash registers during open hours, and then pack up the book fair. We have times available in the morning, during the day, and after school -- we hope you can find something that works for you! Thank you so much for your support, we couldn't do this without you!

September 23-24, 2021

Robinson learners K-5 will watch a short video about bicycle safety and road rules during Wellness class.

Sunday, September 26th, is Bike drop-off day. Please bring your child’s bike for drop-off in the back parking lot from 4:30-6:00 PM. The bikes will be labeled with your child’s name and will be locked in the gym for the week of the rodeo.

Bike pick-up will be on Thursday, September 30th from after pick-up until 6:30pm in the back parking lot. We cannot collect bikes or return them during drop-off or dismissal time. If your child does not have a helmet, bike, or does not know how to ride one; help, bike and/or helmet will be provided.

September 27-30, 2021 is our Bike Rodeo. We will be conducting a bicycle safety obstacle course during your child(ren) Physical Education scheduled time on our blacktop. Kirkwood Officer TJ Stemmler and other fellow officers will be on hand to help students fixed bikes, fit helmets properly, and help our Robinson learners to ride with patience and humor. Please have your child bring their helmet to school on the days they have PE. Please put your child’s name on their helmet. Please have your child dressed appropriately for this activity. Tennis shoes are a must for participation.
