IMPORTANT - Chromebooks - 1:1 Devices

Every student in grades 1- 5 has received a chromebook and charger to use during the school day and at home. Kindergarten devices will be assigned in the near future. It will be a student/parent responsibility to charge the device nightly at home and to ensure the student has the chromebook in his/her backpack to bring to school each day. Parents must complete the CUSD 200 Acceptable Use & Chromebook Care Agreement.

Birthday Celebrations

This year we have to ask you to refrain from sending your child with items to distribute for his/her birthday. Per the CUSD 200 Wellness Policy, food is never allowed for birthday celebrations, but due to COVID mitigation, we are going to refrain from allowing students to pass out items (pencils, stickers, etc.) to classmates. Our teachers will find ways to celebrate the students on their birthdays.

Thanks to Adrianne Karlovitz and Allison Green for the festive fall planters by Door 1. Thank you also to Leslie Frenk for the fun bulletin board in our front vestibule. Last but not least, thank you to John Klich's firm, Assurance Advisory Group, for providing two tents and to Northwestern Mutual for matching the gift so that we may keep the tents through October.

Help Needed

Battle of the Books is a program for 4th and 5th graders sponsored by the Wheaton Public Library. The PTA is looking for a parent to coach the Washington Battle team this year. All Battle meetings would need to be virtual and held after the in-person and virtual academy/asynchronous school day (3:00pm or after). Battle competitions will be virtual as well. If you are interested in coaching Battle this year, please contact PTA Vice President Adrianne Karlovitz at adrianne.karlovitz@cusd200.org.

Picture Day

Picture Day will occur, weather permitting, on Thursday, September 24th. In-person students will have their photos taken during the school day. Virtual academy Washington parents may bring their children between 2:00pm and 3:30pm to the tent on the northside of the building. Please use the cones and blue sidewalk markings to maintain physical distancing. Adults and children should wear masks; children may remove their mask for their photos.

Kindergarten Physicals

Kindergarten parents - if you have not already sent in your School Physical or Eye Exam please make your appointments or send in your paperwork in your child's backpack. Thank you!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences will occur the week of October 19th via Google Meets/Zoom. Your child's teacher will contact you soon to set up a 20 minute conference time.

Reminders for Arrival/Dismissal

Thank you for all of your support and cooperation in helping us implement our new procedures. Here are few important reminders:


  • Once on property past the red flow zone gates, all bicycles and scooter should be walked.
  • Dogs and other pets should not be on school property during arrival, dismissal, and school hours including BASP.
  • All adults and children over the age of 2 must wear a mask when on school property, including outside during arrival/dismissal. Please have your child put on his/her mask before leaving your vehicle during morning arrival.
  • Adults should remain in their vehicles during flow zone arrival and dismissal. Children should exit and enter their vehicles on the passenger side of the car to avoid walking between cars.
  • Being on a handheld cell phone while operating a vehicle is prohibited.

Asynchronous Art, Music & PE

Each day, students in ADK through 5th grade have an hour of asynchronous instruction to complete in the afternoon including work from the classroom teacher or a lesson from the social worker, and the "specials" - art, music and PE. Half-day kindergarten students have only art, music and PE instruction each afternoon. These activities are not optional; they are part of the students' instructional day. The activities can be accessed via Google Classroom. You can contact the appropriate teacher if you are having issues accessing the activities and/or have any questions. The schedule for specials asynchronous lessons is:


Monday, Wednesday, Friday - Physical Education with Mr. Scott Koester

Tuesday - Music with Ms. Christina Pappalardo

Thursday - Art with Mrs. Denise Roche


In addition, each class has a short visit by a specials teacher each day. Mr. Koester, Ms. Pappalardo, and Mrs. Roche will be able to stay connected to students and will use these visits to introduce or discuss the assignment(s) for the week.


Although our days are shortened, we want to ensure that our students still engage in these important subjects!

Breakfast and Lunch Available Free to ALL Students

A meal bag with grab-and-go lunches and breakfasts are currently free to all students. Students may take lunch and a breakfast for the next morning prior to leaving school at 1:00pm. Regular or chocolate milk is available as well as part of the meal bag. Teachers will take orders each morning.

If you are unable to print the documents, you may contact the school office at 630.682.2222 and a form will be mailed to you or sent home with your child. Please send completed forms into the Washington office.

Office/Parent Visitor Procedures

While the Washington office is open, and office staff are happy to assist you in any way, we ask that you refrain from dropping items off for your child this fall in order to limit office traffic. With physical distancing, we are only able to accommodate two parents at a time in the office. Moving lunch, recess, and PE outside of the 9:00am-1:00pm attendance day should reduce the need for dropping off items. Please send paperwork for the office with your child marked accordingly. We will not be accepting homework into the office; please have your child bring it the next day if it is forgotten at home.


If you do have an item that is urgent and necessary to drop off at school, you will most likely be directed to leave the item in the vesitbule. Parents and visitors that are deemed necessary to enter the office will undergo a symptom screeening and temperature check.


If you are called by the health office or need to see the nurse, please wait in the main office area; do not proceed back to the health office. This is for the health and safety of students, staff, and parents.


Lastly, we will not be having parent volunteers and visitors in the building beyond the office this year while we are under the current health guidelines.


Washington truly values the partnerships we have long had with our wonderful parent community. Please understand that these procedures are due to health guidelines; we must follow them in the interest of health and keeping in-person school happening.
