Distance Learning Updates
Students - you are doing such a great job during this difficult time! Keep up your hard work for these last few weeks of school. The district has finalized grading guidelines that are shared below. Please know that teachers will be adjusting their grade books to mirror these policies in the next week or so. No one's grades will be lessened or harmed during Distance Learning.
Over the next few weeks we will be collecting textbooks and Chromebooks, as well as handing out yearbooks and awards. There will be a drive-thru drop-off of textbooks and pick-up of awards and yearbooks. This will take place in the 17th St. parking lot during the latter part of the week of June 8-12. Anyone with Chromebooks from the district will return those to Sowers Middle School during the week of June 15-19.
In addition, the Board of Education approved the 2020-2021 school calendar this week. Please see the attachment below. We do not yet know details about the fall, however I will keep you informed as we get more information.
8th Grade Promotion Information
We are excitedly planning a "Drive-Thru Celebration," a virtual Promotion via video, and have handed out yard signs for each 8th grader. Students should have completed a Google Slide for the Promotion video. If they did not complete it, please do so as soon as possible.
The Promotion Drive-Thru will take place on Thursday, June 18 in the parking lot off of 17th St. All students will be given appointment times. Letters A-L will have appointments in the morning (between 8:30-11:30 AM) and letters M-Z will have appointments in the afternoon (between 12-3 PM). More details will be sent in a Loopmail by the first week in June. We are excited to celebrate all our 8th Graders!
Congratulations National History Day Participants!
Each year, many of our 8th grade students participate in National History Day. They are given a theme, choose a topic of interest, and research a ton regarding their topic. Students are then given the opportunity to display and share their information in a variety of ways. This year we are proud to have two students who were winners in the Orange County Competition!
Kadynce M.'s exhibit board titled "The Woman of WWII" won Breaking Barriers Award: Outstanding Connection to this Year’s Theme. Jillian B.'s exhibit board titled "Women's Suffrage" was awarded as Runner Up to the individuals sent to the state competition. Way to go, ladies!
