TOOLS, TIPS, & TRICKS FROM ITC CARLA JEFFERSON

Resource of the Month: Flipgrid

Flipgrid is my new favorite resource that is designed to promote open discussion between all students within your classroom. Teachers post topics, videos, or links for discussions and students respond to the prompt and to each other with short video reflections.

What Flipgrid does is provides a digital space for learners (students and adults) to share and reflect on ideas with peers and colleagues. It’s an amazing way to get participants involved equally in discussions, and for learners to hear their peers voices and insights.

Flipgrid is what I call "freemium". It has a free version available for teachers to check out, but there is also a paid version which offers additional features and possibilities.

Flipgrid One is free forever and has all the tools to build a social learning community with unlimited topics and student videos. Upgrade to Flipgrid Classroom to transform discussions across all your classrooms and throughout your global community. Students use Flipgrid for free and do not need accounts. Easy peazy.

Flipgrid is available through the website and the app should be found in Self Service.

App of The Month: ChatterKid

Chatterkid can make anything talk -- pets, friends, doodles, and more. Simply take any photo, draw a line to make a mouth, and record your voice. Then share your Pix with friends and family as silly greetings, playful messages, creative cards, or even fancy book reports. And best of all, it’s FREE!

There is a Chatterpix version, but we recommend the Kids version because it does not collect any personal information or include sharing features. Have your students share their learning by creating a Chatterkid video!

The Chatterkids app is located in self-service. Check out the example below where a student gave a first person account of Michelangelo.
