PELC Back to School Updates
August 2020
Open House
There will be no PELC Open House this year, with the exception of a modified 4K Meet & Greet. Parents of 4K students should look to Skyward Messenger for more information. Most grade levels will plan to have students bring supplies with them on their first day. Please watch your Skyward Messenger for any updates to this, as some grade levels may have more specific plans to share before the start of the school year.
Class Lists
YMCA Before & After School Care Program
The YMCA has decided that they are unable to safely open their Before & After care program at the PELC at this point in time. They will continue to reevaluate this decision as the year progresses. We will share any information from the YMCA as we receive it.
Virtual Learning with Acellus
More information about how students and their families can access Acellus content in an engaging and personalized way via Seesaw or Google Classroom will be coming soon!
Updated Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Much of what has worked well for years will continue to be in place here at the PELC. Please see the information below to learn more about how we’ve made some changes to ensure that children are able to social distance during the busier parts of the school day!
Bus Riders
Buses will pull into a drop-off zone in front of the school and then the MS/HS kids will get off and go to the left, followed by the PELC students who will go to the right. Then the next bus will pull into the drop-off zone and unload. Entrances along the front of the building will be designated by grade level instead of everyone entering through the breezeway. At the end of the day, bus riders will be dismissed from their classrooms in small groups so that they can load the buses with social distancing in mind.
Car Riders
In the morning, children being dropped off will go through the car rider line, however they will not need to display a number for morning drop-offs. When students are dropped off, they will enter through doors on the side of the building that will also be designated by grade level.
The afternoon car rider line will operate as it has in the past for pick-up, with minimal changes made. Cars in the car rider line MUST have their numbers in their vehicles in order to pick children up at the end of the day. Students will form small groups for the car rider line in our multi-purpose gymnasium instead of hallways/outdoor spaces.
A Special Note for 4K AM Students
4K drop-off students are able to participate in a delayed drop-off time of 8:15. Parents can help their children exit the vehicle safely, after which a staff member will greet these students at the door and send them directly to their classroom. Our hope is to avoid parents and children congregating at the entrance. 4K bus riders will arrive on schedule with other bus riders.
Thank You!
As you can see, the PELC staff has been hard at work this summer. Our goal is to provide every child with a top-notch education, no matter which model of instruction their family chooses for enrollment. I am very proud of the changes we’ve made and feel as though we’re on the right track.
Please remember that things may change as we move forward, but we’ll do our best to communicate these changes to you in a timely manner.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kate Willett
