Folsom Weekly Update
Feb. 6-14
Message from Dr. Mazzoni
Dear Folsom Team,
The middle school students just completed their first month in the new Soaring Beyond program. The Gold, Blue, and White cards will be distributed today and tomorrow to students. The reward of open gym for students receiving this award will be on Tuesday, February 11th starting at 2:05 pm for gold card holders; 2:25 pm for blue card holders, and 2:45 pm for white card holders.
Students who did not earn a card need to stay in their academic classes with their assigned teachers.
Two Important Points
1) Students attending the open gym shall not have any assignments to make up. This time has to be a reward for those that earn it. The class time with students held back can work on review activities, get extra support, or even do a goal setting activity to ensure they earn their reward in the next month.
2) Teachers must communicate with students at that moment when he or she receives a tally mark for academic behavior. It should not come as a surprise when a student does not earn a card.
Respectfully,
Matthew Mazzoni, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Professional Development:
In education, research has shown that teaching quality and school leadership are the most important factors in raising student achievement. For teachers and district leaders to be as effective as possible, they continually expand their knowledge and skills to implement the best educational practices. Educators learn to help students learn at the highest levels.
While we have district professional development days, each teacher is encouraged to attend an out of district workshop connected to your personal professional growth plan. If you have already attended a workshop, continue to offer the resources and information with colleagues. Online professional development is another useful tool to expand content knowledge and even observe other teaching techniques.
As we come to an end with our in district professional development days, I would appreciate suggestions for next year. The effectiveness of professional development depends on how carefully educators conceive, plan, and implement it.
I will be attending PLC’s next week to review the February 14th schedule. Thank you for sending me an outline ahead of time.
