Welcome Back Everyone!
Teachers
Paint their minds and guide their thoughts
Share their achievements and advise their faults
Inspire a Love of knowledge and truth
As you light the path which leads our youth
For our future brightens with each lesson you teach
Each smile you lengthen Each goal you help reach
For the dawn of each poet Each philosopher each king
Begins with a Teacher and the wisdom they bring.
Middle School News
It is great to be back and see our amazing students. We are already busy competing in Cross Country, Volleyball, Football, Cheer, Robotics Club, NJHS, Student Council, and FFA. We have just had Academic UIL sign ups and we are starting to practice. If your student is not yet involved in an academic UIL event it is not too late. We are very excited that we get to host the Academic UIL Meet on our campus this year in December. We are looking forward to that.
Some of our upcoming events in September are:
Sept. 20 -- Progress Reports determine student eligibility for UIL competitions
Sept. 24 -- GMS Picture Day
Sept. 24 -- GMS MEET THE TEACHER night (Click here to see schedule)
- Many of our teachers are in a Performance Assessment Cohort - more information to come from the district regarding this cohort.
- We will have pep rallies on home football games in the gym at 9:40am - 10:10 am.
- We have partnered with local businesses to help to encourage our students to have good attendance. Each nine weeks students names that have perfect attendance all day, every day will go into a drawing for a pair of AirPods donated to us from a local business. We will have one 7th grade winner and one 8th grade winner per 9 weeks. If you are a business owner and you want to help with this project please contact Leigh Brown - Principal, Godley Middle School
During the upcoming school year I encourage you to take an active role in your child's learning. Parent involvement plays a critical role in our school's success.
Here are some ways to support and increase your child's academic success:
- Make ATTENDANCE a PRIORITY including limiting tardies and absences.
- Check Skyward regularly and stay informed of your student's progress in class and their attendance
- Communicate often with your child's teachers
- Encourage your student to be involved in some type of extra-curricular activity
The staff and I are looking forward to an educationally rewarding school year with your children. Let's make it another great year at Godley Middle School.

Sr. Gross Named one of Ft. Worth's Top Teachers
Congratulations to Godley HS Spanish teacher Sr. Gross on being named one of Ft. Worth's Top Teachers in Ft. Worth magazine. The article on Sr. Gross is posted below and you can read the full article by clicking the link. https://fwtx.com/culture/people/top-teachers/
Gregory Gross
Spanish, Godley High School
As Gregory Gross puts it, most people teach as they were taught. We read, learn vocabulary words, listen to lectures, and take a test; there’s a reason we remember so little from our foreign language classes. But, Profesor Gross, as his students call him, is flipping such stale methods on their head.
“There’re words that for whatever reason, always stand out in people's brains,” Gross says. “So, you remember broccoli or chair or bicycle, but you don't really focus on the actual use of the language. So, I go in there day one, and we find something that's interesting. I personalize it to my kids. And so, it's what they're interested in, is what we learn. I throw in the verbs, they supply the vocabulary, and we go from there.”
This concept is called comprehensible input, which is based around the concept that one must understand what they hear in order for one to process it. And Gross, who’s been teaching Spanish at Godley High School for 12 years, first applied this technique only a few years ago.
“I've been a teacher for 16 years, and I'll say that I've been a good one for four — when I implemented this technique.”
So, if students are steering the conversation, what do they enjoy talking about most? “Themselves,” Gross says.

ES-IS STEAM News
At the 2-4 campus, STEAM is also taught during rotation times. Mrs. Mooney runs the CLI and Mrs. Bohanon runs the computer lab. These students explore coding, engineering challenges, electronics, google tools, & cyber safety to name a few things. Pictured below are students on the 2-4 campus working on Google's Be Internet Awesome program that teaches internet safety and digital citizenship through games.
Be sure and ask your students what they are learning in the CLI (Center for Learning and Innovation)!
