In both Macbeth and Presumed Innocent, the wife is trying to cover up the murder of another human being. Throughout the cover up, both husbands were emotionally ruined. Macbeth was the one who committed the murder, but he did not want to do it. Being persuaded to cover it up by Lady Macbeth nearly drives him crazy as he starts seeing ghosts. In the end, he loses his life due to the crime he committed, but he had really lost everything prior to his death. In Presumed Innocent, the husband, played by Harrison Ford, is accused of a murder he did not commit. Throughout the movie, he attempts to prove his innocence while his wife, who committed the murder, tries to cover it up. In both instances the wives are ultimately responsible for their husband's downfall. Both men loose everything in life that was important to them, but only Macbeth looses his life all together.
Symbolic Piece of Art
This is a great picture to show who is to blame for Macbeth's downfall. This picture shows Lady Macbeth, the girl in the white dress, making Macbeth, the man with blood on his clothes, do all the dirty work as she sits and acts all innocent. This is the part of the play where she is telling him to "Go get some water And wash [the] filthy witness from [his] hand" (Scene 2 Act 2). She also says "Go carry them and smear The sleepy grooms with blood" (Scene 2 Act 2). As if shes trying to control his every move to cover up the deed, which is what drives him crazy in the end.
