Dear Elementary Families,
First and foremost, we hope everyone is staying safe and healthy in these trying times. The school board voted last night for the Tuscarora School District to go to remote learning for all K-12 students starting on December 14th and extending to January 18th, with the tentative student return date of January 19th.
We understand how difficult this is for our students, our families, and our teachers. Please know we will provide the option of live synchronous education to our students in these demanding circumstances. We will offer live remote synchronous instruction at the elementary level on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with Wednesday still being a virtual day. We will also record lessons to be posted for our remote learning students. If students and families would like to change to the TSD Rocket Edge program you have until Friday, December 11th to complete the enrollment form and submit it to the school office. You will find a link to our Remote Learning Plan, as well as, our Request for Change of Placement Form below. Please review the expectations for both options and reach out to your child’s teacher or administrator regarding questions you have about what option would be best suited for your family.
Our hope is that our community can mitigate the spread of this virus to allow our students to return to an optimal learning environment. We are committed to meeting and making adjustments that will allow our students to be successful in not only the virtual environment but also when we transition back to the brick and mortar setting.
Please be on the lookout for more information from Mr. Benedick, as well as, updates regarding food service.
As always, thank you for your patience, flexibility, and support as we navigate these difficult times. The health and safety of our students, staff, and community remain a top priority.
Please Stay Safe, and Please Stay Healthy!
Ryan Kaczmark and Brett Kagarise
Even though we are going virtual until January 19th, we still need to keep an accurate count of COVID-19 exposures and cases in our buildings. During the period of December 14th through January 19th, please contact the school and notify us if your child is exposed or has a confirmed case of the COVID-19 ( This would include the Christmas break). Helping us keep an accurate count will help us ensure that we are bringing back students to a safe environment and allow us to stay in school longer once we return. I am confident if we all do our part this will allow us to return from the virtual learning environment.
Meals During Remote Learning
***Attention TSD Families-Meals for Closure***
The TSD school board voted Monday December 7, 2020 to move all students to remote learning starting Monday December 14th-Jan 18th. We remain committed to offering your children nutritious meals throughout this closure. As you may know, due to COVID-19, all students may receive a free breakfast and lunch for each school day.
For meals for 12/14: We are going to offer a take home breakfast and lunch for your students on Friday 12/11 for consumption on Monday 12/14. To order these meals, High School and Middle School will fill out a google survey in their homeroom, Elementary students will use a sign-up sheet in class. No need for parents to do anything.
For meals for 12/15 and 16: Parents will fill out this survey. The survey will be open from 12/8-12/13. Pick up will be Monday, Dec.14th from 3:30-4:30 pm at the site you choose (High School, Mercersburg, St Thomas). Each child will receive 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches for consumption on 12/15 and 12/16.
Going Forward: For meals for Dec 17- Jan 18, families can fill out the survey below each week from Thursday through Sunday. Pick-up will be on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 pm at the High School, Mercersburg, or St Thomas. Children will receive meals (5 breakfasts and 5 lunches) for consumption on Thursday and Friday of that week plus for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the following week. For example: sign up any time this Thursday-Sunday. Pick up next Wednesday 12/16 and receive breakfast and lunch for 12/17,18, 21, 22, 23. All community members ages 0-18 years are eligible. Virtual Spirit Week
Remember that even though we will be virtual next week, we will still have our Holiday Spirit Week! This year's outfits will be based on different holiday books. Ask your parents to upload your pictures each day to the spirit week padlet! We will kick off our special week on Monday by wearing a warm, wooly sweater in honor of Bear Stays Up for Christmas. For our other days, refer to the list that your teacher has uploaded to their Google Classroom or the link below. Happy Holidays!
