What Did We Learn This Week?

Language Arts

This week our spelling rule was the sounds of /oo/. In grammar we continued to learn about Object and Subject Pronouns. We finished all of the letters in our print Handwriting book and are excited to get started with cursive soon! For comprehension, we reviewed drawing conclusions and making inferences. Our story of the week was Watch Out, Ronald Morgan! by Patricia Reilly Giff. The main character needed to get glasses and became a super kid with them! We are excited to write our own interpretation of the story with a Super Kid Glasses story! We have started brainstorming where we would find the pair of glasses, what they would like, and the super power they would have. We are also decorating our own pair of super kid glasses to go with our story. We can't wait for you to see the finished product!

Math

This week in math we reviewed addition word problem clue words (in all, altogether, sum, total) and addition word problems. Then we moved on to practice estimating with addition by first rounding the two addends before solving. We ended the week learning about key words in an estimation word problem (about how many, roughly, approximately) and practiced with mixed word problems to identify if we needed to estimate and round before adding or just add.

Social Studies

This week in social studies this week we started learning about the different landforms and bodies of water. We watched Brainpop Jr., identified landforms/bodies of water on our large classroom map, and made a landform/bodies or water guide with the picture, word, and definition. Next week we will continue to review and then have a landform/bodies of water assessment on Wednesday, January 13. There will not be a tutorial for this. The study folders with the sheet of landforms/bodies of water they need to be able to identify is going home this weekend for them to review. The assessment will have a word bank and they will fill in the definition of the landform/body of water (they will also have a picture to help them).

We also ended the week talking about our Landform Project. The details and rubric they will be graded on were sent out in a separate email today and a hard copy will also be sent home today. The project will be due on Monday, January 25.

Hebrew

Dear 2nd grade parents,

In our ARIOT book we practiced the cursive letters כּ, כ, ך (KAF, CHAF and final CHAF).

We learned the verbs: כּוֹתֵב (write), אוֹכֵל (eat), מִסְתַּכֵּל (looking), read a story and worked on fluency in reading.

Please keep reading at home as much as possible.
