Troop 483 Weekly Update

This Week

Scoutmaster Update

Hi Scouts!

This is the time of year that we change our program and troop leadership. The results of the elections are in and we are working with the new prospective Patrol Leaders for our upcoming announcement on who you have selected.

Next Monday is Memorial Day and as such, we will not have a Troop Meeting. Memorial Day is something that some of us celebrate as the unofficial start of summer and a day that we BBQ and relax with family and friends, but what is Memorial day?

What we know as Memorial Day actually started after the Civil War. It was a day of remembrance where people would place flowers on the graves of those who had been killed in battle. Originally this was known as Decoration Day. After World War I this tradition evolved to honor all American military personnel who died in all wars. Memorial Day was historically held on May 30th, but in 1968 Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which changed Memorial Day to the last Monday in May.

So as we celebrate over the Memorial weekend, let's take a moment to remember and honor the brave Men and Women who have given their lives in battle and defense of our freedom.
