Showcase!
Students should be here at 6:45 wearing their presentation best.
Chemistry plays an important role in just about everything, from cooking food to fighting diseases and many people use it in their everyday lives. Yet, many students don’t experience enough chemistry early in school to prepare them for the advanced thinking required of students in the 21st century.
How can we use our understanding of chemistry to expand early access to this branch of science and prepare kids as scientific thinkers?

302 Book Fair Wish List
We know many of you like to make gifts to our classroom from the book fair. We love to use this opportunity to build our sets of Book Club Books and so we try to ask for 5 copies of the same novel which is why we only ask for a few titles in hopes that we can build a set.
The wish lists are online, but there are different books in the store than online and the online list is a little tricky so we are including the titles we picked below.
We would love to add the following books to our available book club sets:
- Serafina and the Twisted Staff (in the book fair store)
- Girl who Drank the Moon (in the book fair store)
- Wandmaker (In the book fair store and online)
IXL.Com Accounts
I am excited to let you know that thanks to a generous grant from the Capitol Hill Community Foundation we are able to give all students in our class an IXL account. IXL is a comprehensive learning program offering unlimited math and reading practice across thousands of skills—all of which are aligned to the Common Core. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home, so you have a chance to see your child's progress!
To get your child started on your home computer, simply have students login to IXL.com and select 5th grade. You can access other grade level content as well if your student is working to build their skills! Students already have their passwords written in their planner.
All of your child's results will be saved, so you can monitor his or her progress anytime by clicking on Analytics. For on-the-go practice, you can download IXL’s free tablet apps for iPad, Android, or Kindle and sign in with your child’s username and password.
Please email Ms. Katie is you have any questions or need a copy of your student's username and password.
