Why do all students take the DIBELs assessment in the fall/winter/spring?
DIBELs (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is a quick assessment (3-5 minutes/child) used to check reading skills from kindergarten to sixth grade. DIBELS were designed to help teachers monitor children's reading growth in order to provide appropriate instruction and prevent the occurrence of later reading difficulties.
Examples
- if a child is reading words accurately, but slowly, the teacher can provide extra practice re-reading stories to improve reading fluency.
- A child who's scores indicate reading skills above their grade level will need opportunities to read more challenging text.
Teachers review scores on DIBELS measures for all the students in a class to make decisions about how to prepare their day-to-day reading lessons.
What's new with the PTO?
Thank you for all your support of Franklin's PTO so far this year!!! We had a great PTO meeting last night. You're invited to attend next month on Thursday, November 10 at 6:30 p.m..
Fall Cherrydale Fundraiser Wrap-Up: GREAT JOB!
There were 167 students who sold at least one item for the fundraiser. We get 40%-50% of each item sold, so we raised over $8,850 for Franklin! The exact amount raised will be displayed at order pick-up on Monday, October 24 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the Auditorium (use E. Layfayette door)
Box Tops for Education: Prepare to turn in Box Tops!
As we announced last spring, we're holding a Box Tops for Education classroom competition where the winning classes get to select a school-wide theme day! The BTFE competition kicks off next week and wraps up by the end of October!! More details will go home next week, but start gathering your Box Tops for Education. Last year, we raised over $2,150 for Franklin!
Hy-Vee Kash4Kids Program: Save your Hy-Vee Receipts!
This year's Kash4Kids Program started on September 1, so keep your Hy-Vee receipts from either Mankato store and turn them in to the collection bin across from the school office. We get $1 for each $150 spent at Hy-Vee, which earned Franklin over $511 last year!
See you at the Franklin Family Fun Night next Thursday! We'll be selling Franklin clothing and answering your PTO questions. Plus we have a prize drawing, so stop by and say "hi."
What Box Tops does the PTO collect?
What's a MakerSpace?
A MakerSpace is a collaborative work space inside a school facility for making, learning, exploring and sharing that uses high tech to no tech tools. ... They provide hands on learning, help with critical thinking skills and even boost self-confidence.
Families who are able to attend the Family Fun Night will have the opportunity to check out the MakerSpace.
