I hope this Update finds you and those you care about safe and healthy.
Here are a few updates and reminders, as we wind down this year.
New Superintendent Named
Dr. Scott Ziegler, who had been serving as our Interim Superintendent, was named as the next Superintendent for Loudoun County Public Schools by the School Board on Tuesday, June 8th. I am looking forward to working with Dr. Ziegler to support Heritage and our community, as we wrap up this school year and move into the next one!
Class of 2021 Updates
Seniors will be receiving an update from me tonight on Graduation. The information has already been updated on the Graduation 2021 Information Page.
Walking for Water
Our Annual Walking for Water event has gone virtual this year. You can find out more information below.
Yearbooks
Mark your calendars. The yearbooks are coming! Yearbook Curbside Pickup will be Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27 from 1:00-4:00PM. There will be no appointments this year. You may come either day anytime during the scheduled hours to pick up your yearbook. If you did not order a yearbook yet, there are still some copies available at www.yearbookordercenter.com. The last day to order a yearbook is Friday, June 25.
Summer Hours
With our renovation/construction, the Main Office and School Counseling Office will be moving temporarily to the Fine Arts section of the Building, so when you visit us over the summer, you will use the B5 door (side door closest to the stadium). Beginning June 17th, the current Main Entrance will not be accessible until the Fall.
The Main Office will be open during the Summer, Monday-Friday, 8:30-3:30.
Important Dates for next year
For those of you who are returning next year, please be sure to have the following important dates on your calendar:
- 9th Grade and New Student Orientation (4-5:30 PM)
- Welcome Back Town Hall (5:30-6 PM)
- Back to School Celebration Open House (6-8 PM)
Thursday, 26th-First Day of School
Masks/Face Covering
When visiting campus, please remember that the relaxation of the mask mandate from the Governor for fully vaccinated individuals does not apply in schools. LCPS still requires all students, staff, and visitors inside the building to wear a face covering that covers their nose and mouth with the few exceptions we have always recognized.

A Word of Appreciation
This will be the last Weekly Update until the Summer Updates begin coming mid-July, so I wanted to end with a few words of appreciation.
First, I want to thank all our families for staying with us, keeping in communication, and trusting us with your students. This year, the support our students receive at home was paramount, and a strong school-family partnership was vital. I want to continue to build those connections and make sure they continue to be strong, as we move into next year. I want to recognize a few members of our PTSO Executive Board who have graduating seniors who who have just stayed on to help us get through this crazy year. Barbara Adgate, Kimberly Barberich, and Colleen Wist have all contributed so much to Heritage in their many years here, and I wanted to be sure to express my appreciation for them and their service.
I also want to say thank you to our amazing Faculty and Staff for this craziest of years. From our front office secretaries to our teachers to our custodians to our administrators to our cafeteria staff and everyone else, our Heritage staff showed that a historical year could be met with historical resilience, creativity, and determination. There are not words to express my appreciation and awe of their efforts this year.
Finally, I want to recognize our students, especially our seniors. This year has posed great challenges and required constant adjustment for many of them. Some of them found success and were able to shine. Some of them were at both ends of that spectrum this year, depending on the day. But through their tenacity, flexibility, and willingness to work with each other and our staff, they have shown me that our future is bright. Despite a senior year that wasn't what anyone had wanted or expected, the Class of 2021 have shown themselves to be incredible leaders who are graduating with the knowledge that choosing to tackle the problems that lie in front of them with confidence and a willingness to work through the challenges is the true path to learning and success. My hope for them is that they leave Heritage with the confidence that they can accomplish anything. I know I believe that of them and cannot wait to see what the future holds.

Walking for Water 2021
Walking For Water 2021 - Stop Wishing, Start Acting
Walking For Water:
Did you know that roughly 780 million people lack convenient access to an improved water source? Walking For Water, a branch of the non-profit organization Wisdom Spring, is a club at Heritage High School and Laguna Beach High School that seeks to raise awareness about the importance of clean water and to raise funds for water well construction in Africa and India. Walking For Water has raised over $350,000 and built 34 wells in the past 18 years. Each year, the club’s biggest fundraiser - the walkathon - raises money for water well construction and youth education in developing countries. Due to the current health crisis, the walk has been moved to a digital platform.
Goals:
Despite the unprecedented circumstances, teens at Heritage and Laguna Beach High School are determined to reach the goal of raising $75,000. Walking For Water has the opportunity to install a pipeline in Kenya for $7,000 that will bring water to more people than ever before. On June 19th and 20th, the “virtual walk” will take place. The teens have worked tirelessly to create an app that will allow ANYONE who wants to walk, walk! By signing up for the virtual walk, you are supporting Walking For Water in our efforts to bring life to millions who are without. The virtual app allows you to track your miles in teams or by yourself. Additionally, you can walk however much or little you want.
How to sign up for the virtual walk:
These are the steps a participant for Walking for Water should take when signing up for the event:
1. Go to the Main Event Page: https://www.wisdomspring.org/virtual
Here you can register for the Walk as well as follow along with the progress of the event.
2. When you click the Register button - you will enter basic information for yourself. Please make sure we have an email we can use to send updates, and your address so we can send items like t-shirts. Please also add your t-shirt size where indicated.
3. There is also a spot that asks if you want to start the fundraising with a donation. Studies have shown that when you contribute to the fundraising first, to get things rolling, that you have a significantly higher chance of meeting your goal.
4. When you have completed the Event Registration a dialog box should open prompting you to also set up your account on Move Spring. Follow the link and do the basic setup. If for some reason the dialogue box does not appear - simply follow this link HERE.
5. Create a username for your MoveSpring account.
6. Continue setting up your MoveSpring account.
7. You're all set! You can now use your MoveSpring account to log activity and view Wisdom Spring content. It is also where you will go to track your walking on the days of the Event.
How you can help in other ways:
If you are not able to walk on June 19th and 20th or would like to help in other ways, here’s how you can help:
Make a direct donation to https://www.wisdomspring.org/donate/
Purchase Walking For Water merchandise from Wisdom Spring
Sponsor a Walking For Water participant (remember, anyone can walk)
Participate in the silent auction and raffle (more information can be found on https://www.wisdomspring.org/virtual/)

Unified Mental Health Team Information
Good afternoon, Students and Parents,
I hope that you are well! I wanted to reach out to provide you with some valuable information regarding mental health supports in our community. We have presented information to our freshman student body this week about who the Unified Mental Health Team members at Heritage are and how students can support each other and find support from our staff. The presentation educates students about resiliency and healthy ways to manage life’s stressors using the Sources of Strength model. Help-seeking behaviors are taught for when students may be experiencing mental health struggles. They are taught to share their concerns with a trusted adult. Our Unified Mental Health Team members include:
Jeffrey Adam, School Principal
Suzanne Eicholtz, Director of School Counseling
Catherine Tannuzzo, School Psychologist
Leslie Saunders, School Social Worker
Megan Marshall, Student Assistance Specialist
Meagen Zawistowski, School Counselor
