It Starts With You

CULTURE TOPIC: Lễ Hai Bà Trưng

The Trung Sisters, Trung Trac and Trung Nhi, were the first female military leaders of Vietnam. They were born in Northern Vietnam (c. 12AD - 43AD). They are known for leading a rebellion against the Chinese domination.
In 40 AD, the Trung Sisters, after successfully repelling a small Chinese unit from their village, assembled a large army consisting mostly of women. Within months, they had taken many citadels from the Chinese. They became queens regnant of Nanyue and managed to resist subsequent Han attacks on the country for over three years.
The Trung Sisters are considered a national symbol for independence in Vietnam. Le Hai Ba Trung is celebrated on February 8th on the Lunar calendar. There is usually a parade in their honor. Vietnam dedicated a district in Hanoi and a temple for them.
