Principal's Challenge and STAAR Testing
Students have been competing against each other in a daily question challenge. Each grade level is provided a question in math, reading, writing, science, and logic each day of the week. At the end of the week the class with the highest percentage correct receives a dress up day the following week. Pre-K and kinder won the first week, and fourth grade was the winner for the second week. The challenge will last for eleven week. Questions are focused on readiness and process standards from each grade levels Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
Classes are quickly rising to the challenge and for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade it is helping teachers to know what students need to focus to be successful with STAAR testing.
STAAR Test will be conducted in the following dates:
March 29th -- 4th grade writing, 5th Grade math
March 30th -- 5th Grade Reading
May 10th -- 3rd and 4th grade Math, and 5th grade retest
May 11th -- 3rd and 4th grade Reading, and 5th grade retest
May 12th -- 5th grade Science
Student attendance is important for every day of school, but especially important on these days so students can test with their classmates. If students miss a STAAR test, they will be required to take the test on the Friday of each testing week. We appreciate when parents and teams do not schedule appointments on these days, as the tests are timed. Once a student begins a test, the time can only be stopped for lunch purposes.
Spelling Bee, Friday, February 12th at 9:00 am in the Vega School Auditorium
We are pleased to announce that Paislee Bray, from second grade, and Isaiah Brown, from fifth grade will be representing Mimi Farley Elementary in the Oldham County Spelling Bee. Each school in Oldham County is allowed to have two students compete in their Junior Spelling Bee. If one of our students wins, they will have the opportunity to compete in the Senior Bee. If they advance in the Junior or Senior Bee they will then be a contestant in the regional then state spelling bee. Our students have been studying and are prepared for tomorrow.
