The Owl Times

The Parent Newsletter for Oak Hills Terrace Elementary

November/December 2019

From Principal Robinson's Desk

It's hard to believe we are already in the second nine-weeks. We are so proud of the incredible effort our students have put forward this school year. It was great to see so many of you at our PTA Trunk or Treat event. The Oak Hills Terrace community is amazing and we appreciate your support in the education of our students!

One of the best ways you can help support your child in their education is to make sure they are at school everyday on time. When they are late or absent, they are missing a valuable piece of the puzzle that will help them build a successful foundation in their school career. Please help support our efforts by bringing your child to school on time every day. The first bell rings at 7:40 a.m.

Peter Piper Pizza Report Card Night Was A Huge Success

Thank you to those of you who came out for Peter Piper Pizza Night! It's a great way to celebrate our students and give back to the school at the same time. A portion of what was spent that night comes back to the school. If you weren't able to make it this time, don't worry. We will have another one on January 28th, the Tuesday after report cards go out for the second nine-weeks. Remember, when kids bring in their report cards to Peter Piper Pizza on those nights, they get free tokens.

Class Dojo Communication is Strong

Every teacher on our campus is using Class Dojo. This tool has been great in helping to manage classroom behavior and also reward those students with great behavior. In addition to managing behavior, teachers, administrators, and counselors use Class Dojo as a communication tool. Make sure when you are on Class Dojo that you click on the class story link at the bottom of the screen. There you will find the latest information and pictures from your child's classroom as well as from our campus as a whole. You can even directly message Mrs. Robinson or Ms. Wagner on Class Dojo. We love how connected we are to everyone. We have over 530 parents on Class Dojo! Thank you for all of your support!

Updates on the Security Lobby Construction

Thank you all for your patience as we re-route everyone through the courtyard entrance during the construction of our security lobby. They have demolished the wall between the office and lobby to create our check in window. They have also started on the construction of the reception area desks. We are hoping for this project to be completed before we come back from the winter break. Please continue to use the double blue doors to the right when you enter the courtyard to access our front office.

Traffic Flow

Please continue to use caution when driving through the parent pick up loop. It is never safe to drop off students from the left lane. Always drop off and pick up students from the right lane. If you are parking, please use the designated crosswalks to cross over the loop. Once you have picked up or dropped off your child, please drive slowly as you exit the parking lot and watch for cars on all sides. Be kind and courteous to each other. We all want our kids to get to and from school safely. Thank you for your help and support!

Volunteers

Don't forget, if you would like to volunteer or chaperone a field trip, you can click here to access the background check application or go to www.nisd.net, scroll to the bottom and click the Volunteers and Affiliates link. Complete the requested information on the application and select submit. If you are unable to access the internet, you can come by the OHT library to complete the application using our computers. We usually get the information back within a week. We only see the volunteers name and the word "cleared". If someone is not cleared, they will receive notification from our HR department. The school doesn't get that information.

Winter Parties on December 20th

On Friday, December 20th our campus will celebrate the holidays with Winter Parties in every classroom. The parties will run from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. that morning. Be on the look out for information from the teacher for things you can send to school to help for the party. We will also send out an RSVP for those who would like to volunteer to help at their child's party.

PTA Updates

Thank you to our amazing PTA for the successful Trunk or Treat event! We had a wonderful turnout and students and families had a great time! They were able to raise over $2,000 for our school.

If you haven't had a chance to join PTA, please do! It's $7.00, and that money goes to help with programs, field trips and items for our students and teachers. You can return the money in an envelope or go online to joinPTA.org to join. Choose Northside ISD as the school district and then Oak Hills Terrace Elementary.

Our next PTA project will be our Pictures with Santa. This will take place that last week before school releases for winter break. Be on the lookout for more information coming soon.
