The Saber Truth
March 11-15, 2019
Saber Speak
Dear Saber Families,
Another week down and more excitement ahead! Last week 8th grade students got a visit from Dr. Victor DeNoble, a whistleblower on big tobacco, about the dangers of nicotine, smoking, vaping, and other drug use. It was an incredible assembly and we were thrilled that he could share his knowledge with us! Last weekend, Sinaloa was proud to host the 3rd Annual Simi Valley Middle School Mock Trial tournament. Our Sabers were fantastic, and we are so proud of the effort each poured into their work. We are also especially grateful to Mrs. Boerem, our Mock Trial coach, for all the time and energy she has poured into the team. Bravo to all!
This week, we'll be discussing promotion requirements, the 8th grade Magic Mountain trip, and our expectations for the rest of the semester. As a school, we are also looking forward to hosting "For The Troops" this weekend! NJHS and Builders Club are supporting a For The Troops Walk-a-Thon on March 16th from 9am - 1pm in the amphitheater at the front of the school. All Sinaloa students and families are invited to participate and/or donate. If you have questions please can contact Mrs. Lightfoot or Mrs. Gerfen at corrine.lightfoot@simivalleyusd.org or sarah.gerfen@simivalleyusd.org, respectively.
As always, thank you for being part of the Saber family, and please feel free to reach out anytime!
Sincerely,
Bradley Torti

Counseling Corner
To our 6th and 7th grade Families:
Mrs. Malais and Mrs. Herzer enjoyed speaking to your students this past week during registration pick up. We will continue with registration pick up for the rest of this week in elective classes. Our goal during this time is to check in with our students regarding class registration for 2019/2020 and answer specific questions. In addition, we like to celebrate the successes of our students by checking Aeries and for some students reviewing ways to be successful in school, including ways to access resources on campus.

2018/19 Saber Club Schedule
Attached below is the flyer for this year's clubs. They are a great way for your student to make new friends, try new things, and even get help with homework. Check out the schedule with your student and encourage them to try at least one!
Attendance Policies
Attendance Phone Line: 805-520-6830 Press 1, or Ext. 7021 (Can call anytime day or night)
Para espanol, oprima la estrella. (Llama dia o noche)
ABSENCES - Parents have five (5) days to call-in, email, or send in a note to the attendance office to excuse an absence otherwise it becomes truant. Keep in mind that personal/vacation are verified but still considered unexcused.
TARDIES - If a student is tardy to homeroom or late to school, they need to check-in with the attendance office to get a tardy pass. Students tardy to homeroom will have a 15 minute detention after school unless a parent calls, emails, or sends in a note to excuse the tardy. Excessive tardies to classes will affect "citizenship" grade.
EARLY PICK-UPS - We encourage parents to call-in ahead of time (or send in a note or email) for early pick-ups so that we can have the student in the office ready to go. Anyone checking-out a student must be listed on the student's emergency contact list, be 18 years or older, and must show a valid ID.
