A Message from the Principal
Bay Harbor Sailor Families,
Nothing like a little warmth and sunshine to make things feel a little better! We deserve this break from the cold as I felt winter tried to creep in a bit early (and this is coming from a Yooper). A lot is going on in our area and the nation...it definitely can make one’s head spin. I just finished up meeting with every grade level as I do every week. I asked many questions of them but the one I want to bring to your attention is, “Coming off of conferences, how do you feel they went?”. The answer overall was that they felt “appreciated and validated for their efforts”! Bay Harbor Families, THANK YOU for that! I know that virtual learning isn’t the easiest for every child or every family, and that we all would rather be back in school in-person, but THANK YOU for understanding that our people care and are doing everything they can do for your kids. Your support of us is appreciated and your daily efforts to support your children do not go unnoticed.
Surveys
There are two surveys coming up that I want you to be aware of. Tomorrow, the district will be sending out a survey that will focus on our current plan and plans moving forward. PLEASE take time to do this survey and provide the district your feedback. This information will be used for further district planning and will be part of the November 16th Board Meeting. Again, your input is key!
The second survey will come out later in November and is more of a school survey to check in on the work we are doing around teaching students and implementing the 7 Habits of Leadership by the work of Steven Covey. The work focuses on creating a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. Your input will be very important as we continue to work to meet the needs of our students and help grow them to be the best self they can be.
Report Cards
This Friday marks the end of the first quarter. Report cards will come out next Friday via an email message from me. Though report cards are important, some of the best information came during conferences as well as on the daily feedback given to students via the work they do in Seesaw. This feedback is very important because it gives instant information on how they are doing at that time on a specific skill.
PTO Meeting
Next Tuesday, at 6:00pm, we will have our monthly PTO meeting. The link to the meeting can be found here: https://meet.google.com/jfe-tyjx-qbq
During these times of political and community divide, I want us to keep the focus on what is good and not forget that there are a lot of caring people out there all here to support. I am grateful to be the principal of this school in this district and I am grateful my children can be a part of the many great things it provides. Take care of yourselves and please don’t hesitate to reach out!
With appreciation,
Tony Ebeling, Principal

From your School Board, October 2020
2020-2021 Howard-Suamico School District Budget
During our annual meeting September 28, community members received a detailed review of the school district’s 2020-2021 budget and voted to adopt it as presented. During the meeting on October 26, the Board of Education approved a total tax levy of $30,375,445, which supports a district budget of $91,000,528.
This levy will result in the school’s portion of our property taxes remaining stable at $9.19. The budget, just as in year’s past, establishes that we continue to value innovation, investing in our staff, driving academic performance for every student, and fiscal stability.
Board members have engaged in continuous legislative advocacy efforts, specifically pertaining to the State’s biennium budget, which positively impacted the students of the Howard-Suamico School District. The advocacy efforts have recently led to partnerships with local municipalities utilizing federal grant dollars to purchase electrostatic sprayers, cafeteria tables with benches, expanded WiFi at Meadowbrook and Suamico Elementary, and MERV air filters.
Over the next few months Board members will continue to review the budget and plan strategically for the future. Another survey will be sent out later this year to gather additional information as referendum planning continues.
