Apple Tree in Reds, Greens—
Zoe
Apple Tree in Reds, Greens, and Golds
My apple tree
In the backyard
Blooms a red pearl rain,
Flowers a green storm,
Sighs in golden waves.
Then WOOSH!
The wind blows
Its icy breath.
And off flies the wave,
Until the tree is left
Barren and cold.
Shivering silently in the sighing snow.
And it sleeps,
Until the pearls appear
Again.
When the butterflies and birds
Will greet it
With sweet and caring chirps
And tweets.
And the perfect pearls
And the limbs
Will bud with green fingernails
And eventually the fruit will come
In reds, greens, and golds.
And the color of its fingernails
Will change to match the fruit.
Then will be clipped
Once again by frigid gusts of wind,
Falling off in reds, greens, and golds
Littering my backyard.

Zoe is in seventh grade and loves to write poetry and fiction. She first started writing and illustrating in kindergarten; her first story ever is called “Spring Is Here.” She still has it. Zoe started writing poetry after reading Where the Sidewalk Ends. One of her favorite poets is Maya Angelou, the writer of her favorite poem (currently), "Still I Rise." When she is not scribbling down ideas on spare napkins, she can be found up in her room playing her saxophone or at the pool swimming laps.
