Summer Blessing for Families
May we make our homes places of relaxation,
joy, love, peace and safety.
May we be generous and considerate,
not thinking only about ourselves,
but helping others enjoy the blessings of the summertime.
Lord God, Creator of all things,
guide our steps and strengthen our hearts
during these months of summer and vacation days.
Grant us refreshment of mind and body.
May we constantly strive to make a meaningful difference
in the lives of our loved ones and in the world around us
as we enjoy the warm days of summertime.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

IXL accounts can be accessed over the summer. This provides an opportunity for your student to review Math and Language Arts in the summer months. Take advantage of this website so your child is prepared for their next grade.
Last month, Mr. Jankowski sent an email and a letter to all parents regarding children and apps on their electronic devices. I'd like to reiterate Mr. Jankowski's concern about the safety of our students - your children.
- Be aware of the apps that are on your children's phones, tablets, and devices. If you don't know what something is, Google it. Better still, ask your child. Check the minimum age for a child to use the app and be sure your child is in compliance.
- Make sure your child is not using their real name when they sign up for accounts.
- Never post personal information and make sure your child is not posting personal information. Ask your child what they consider to be personal information. We discuss it in class so they should tell you: name, address, phone number, grade, school, town, age, birth date, parents' email, their own email, number of siblings, favorite color or food.
- Those first day of school pictures in their new uniforms? Don't take a picture with your house or the school in the background. Better still, don't post a picture of your child in a school uniform because it can identify the school they attend.
- If an app has a private message function, be sure to check your child's messages. You should also check their texts, emails, and chats. You are not invading their privacy, you are parenting!
- Be sure to check your child's friend or follow list. If there is a person you don't recognize, question your child and have them unfriend, block, or unfollow this person if they don't know who it is.
Next year, I'd like to do an Internet Safety presentation at a PTA meeting or other open forum. In the meantime, take five minutes to read this article. Hopefully, we can all be better informed and more vigilant in keeping our children safe.
