On the Side of Hope!

We are a No Excuses University Campus!

The video below shares a few perspectives from people on what the world would be like without teachers. Many of the perspectives were created by relationships each person had with an educator. As you begin another week of intentional instruction, add some intentional interactions that will accelerate the sense of belonging and trust for students in our learning environment.

A Minute with the LASes...

"Reading and writing float on a sea of talking" - James Britton

To be successful in school and later in college, students need to be able to read complex sentences, increase their vocabulary by 4,000 words/year and develop mental stamina.

Below are some resources to support vocabulary development:

  • Vocabulogic, bridging the verbal divide - Word harvesting
  • iStation - Skill words list per reading cycle. Use these links for 5 question Kahoot games as an introduction or review K-1, 2-3 and 4-5
  • Books: "The words collector" by Peter H. Reynolds (available as a read aloud in YouTube) and "Life in a crowded Place" by Ralph Peterson (How to make a learning community)
  • AVP cards
  • Foster oral communication - Conversation, discussion and dialogue (use the first two as a casual social encounter, and dialogue with the purpose of constructing meaning)
  • Check Oral and Visual communication from the Literacy Continuum

Click here if you are ready to test your own vocabulary knowledge and at the same time collaborate with the United Nations World Food Program!

LEAD- Goal Attainment Review/End of Year Conference:

We enjoyed meeting with you and learning your progress towards your Goals. We will begin meeting with you for the End of the year conference mid April. Remember to continue adding your artifacts in Strive. Artifacts that you have been collecting during the year need to be submitted on Strive by April 16th.

Goal Attainment Review/End of Year Conference: This meeting is conducted within the last 9 weeks of instruction. The conference is a time for the teacher and appraiser to review the information collected throughout the year, and present any artifacts supporting the goal progress or attainment.

The teacher and appraiser will collaboratively determine the appropriate dimension for each element of the LEAD rubric. Comments will be added based on evidence and discussion during the Goal Attainment Review/End of Year Conference.

Take some time to begin reflecting on your progress and where you are in relationship to each domain. Remember that LEAD is a professional growth tool. There will not be a total rating. Each domain will be rated in isolation.
