ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families,
This week’s newsletter arrives early due to a busy week!
Tomorrow will be the Halloween Parade at CCS, beginning at 8:30. Please review the following expectations with your student prior to tomorrow’s Halloween Parade:
- We ask that all costumes be respectful of everyone in our community. Costumes should not misrepresent groups of people, perpetuate stereotypes or exaggerate violence. For example, it could be offensive or unkind to dress as another gender, race or cultural group. Knowing that this is a K-8 celebration, please be mindful of the impact that a costume might have on younger students, particularly frightening masks. During the parade:
- We walk, not run, during the parade.
- We do not "rush" Pumpkin Man.
- If tomorrow’s weather is rainy, our parade will be moved into the Gym. Should the parade be inside, we have been informed that Pumpkin Man will not be in attendance.
For adults attending:
- We will be asking all visitors to sign in at tables at the front entrance to CCS and to receive and wear a visitor sticker.
- As part of our Safety Team’s identified work, we anticipate that community members of our Safety Team will be present to support a successful event, including CVSD Central Office staff and local law enforcement and/or emergency response personnel. The addition of Safety Team members is planned for other large events, such as town voting days and large night-time events.
Reminder: Friday afternoon, from 2:15 - dismissal, we will collaboratively host our monthly PTO & Q&A with the Principals. We will meet in the Main Office Conference Room. Parents and community members are welcome and encouraged to attend!
Kind Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra

AN IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING BLACKBOARD CONNECT
We use the Blackboard Connect system to inform CCS families of important and time-sensitive information. It has come to our attention that oftentimes families and staff will see a call coming in from the school number and rather than listen to the message they call to ask what the message is about. This inadvertently ties up the line for families who need to call us because of the content of the message. We often receive over 35 calls within just a few minutes from parents who saw that the school called but did not listen to the message.
We ask that you make sure your mailbox can accept messages and that you listen to the message to see if it impacts you before you call the school. This will allow the school line to be available to those families who truly need to contact us. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.
CCS CROSS COUNTRY
MUSIC NEWS
Music News
Best wishes to the members of the 7-8 band who are auditioning for the District III Music Festival band this weekend at the Colchester Middle School. Upon acceptance, they will represent CCS in an honors band at a Winter Festival to be held at CVU on Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1 with students from across Chittenden County. Break a leg!!!
Owen Deale, Sawyer Carr and Taryn Martin Smith have been busy preparing for the District III Jazz Festival to be held on Friday, November 8 at Camel’s Hump Middle School in Richmond, VT. They will represent the CCS jazz band as members of a select jazz ensemble. After a day of rehearsal with a guest conductor, they will take part in an evening performance beginning at 6:30 PM. Congratulations and good luck! We are proud of you!
Last week we had guest performers visit our middle school band and chorus students. The American Clarinet Quartet, a contingency of the Heritage Air Force Band based in Virginia, played an amazing concert at CCS! They answered questions about what being a full time military musician is like and they played a diverse selection of musical numbers. It was an incredible learning opportunity for our students!
Please keep your eyes on the newsletter for all upcoming musical events. Feel free to contact Andy Smith at asmith@cvsdvt.org or (802) 425 - 6653 or Monica Littlefield at mlittlefield@cvsdvt.org or (802) 425 - 6629 with any questions. Thank you!
