iPad Managing and Storing Documents
Microsoft OneDrive Edition
OneDrive Tips and Tricks
Microsoft's OneDrive is the cloud based storage available with our school Microsoft accounts. Each teacher and student in our district has access to their own cloud storage.
To put it simply, cloud storage just means that the documents/photos etc are being saved on a server in some other location, versus directly on your device. The benefit of this is, that as long as you have access to a wifi connection you can retrieve those documents or photos from anywhere on any device.
Typically if you log into OneDrive on your iPad first, it will automatically log you in to the rest of the Microsoft apps. So, students (and teachers) should log into this one first with your school email addresses.
If asked, students and teachers should choose to log in to OneDrive for work accounts.

Navigating and Managing OneDrive
The first things you will want students to do when they get into OneDrive is learn how to navigate and manage folders.
Look for location
In the middle, top of the iPad, under the time, you can see which area of OneDrive you are in. If you are in a specific file, the name of that file will show (in place of Files here).
Adding Content
Press the "+" sign in the upper right hand corner to create a folder, add photos or create documents.
Have students create a folder for your class from this spot. I would not suggest creating Word documents or PowerPoints from this area at this time because it auto generates long names.

Creating a Folder
When you choose to create a folder, press the "x" next to where it says "New Folder" and then change the name.
You could choose to share this folder as a collaboration tool with others and give them editing privileges so they can add content or edit work in the folder by pressing the appropriate toggle switches and typing in email addresses.

Photo Storage Tip
Periodically have students take their favorite videos and images from their iPad and back them up to a folder in their OneDrive. This way they can delete the things they don't need and keep their photo area cleared out.
You can do this to with school photos.
Press "+" >> Choose Exisiting >> Give OneDrive permission to access photos>> Select as many photos/videos as you would like to upload >> select Done.
To share the folder with others, with the folder open press the box with the arrow and type in the email address for individuals you would like to share with.
This could also be a way for you to share teacher approved images with students for projects.

Moving & Renaming Content
If you press and hold a folder or file in OneDrive, little circles will appear next to the folders and files. Put a check mark next to the ones you would like to edit.

Editing PDFs in OneDrive
One of the cool features of OneDrive is that you can annotate PDFs and it will save your annotations. This could provide you with many teaching and learning options.
You could use this feature with Schoology to have students save a PDF to OneDrive from Schoology, annotate it with their thoughts and then resubmit as an assignment.
Students could pull in PDFs of articles and highlight important details and annotate text with questions they have, notations about vocabulary in context or observations about the content.
It could also be used very simply to add a signature to documentation.
See how this works in the video below.
