Using Technology to Empower Your Teaching
What is Tech-Know How?
Welcome to the first installment of the MPES Technology news. This news will serve to update you on all things technology related here at Mountain Park and hopefully provide you with useful information, tips and tricks to help you in your classroom. Our technology goal is to shift the integration of technology from something that only happens in the computer lab to something that is seamless in the classroom.
Mountain Park eClass Training Page
To facilitate our eClass training for the year, we will be using the Mountain Park Training page. This is a new page you might want to pin to your list in the C&I tool. Search 'Mountain Park ES Training' to locate it in your C&I tool. This page will be updated regularly with how to sheets that support our monthly tasks, videos to guide you, and other useful information. When we have grade level or whole staff training for eClass, we will be doing it through our training page. Grade levels 3-5 have opted for the lead innovator to assist them with the tasks for September and October. Grades K-2 will be meeting during their planning on Monday, September 14th to work on the September tasks. K-2 will be meeting on Thursday, October 1st from 3-4pm to get started onthe October tasks. Others are welcome to join us that afternoon as well. Tasks for September are shown below.
Many students have brought in their headphones and are using them successfully in class and in the labs. However, there are still students who need headphones. Please stop by the Cougar Lab and get what you need, either for students or for classroom use. A large plastic tub of headphones is located on the right hand side of the lab.
Located next to the headphone bin is another plastic tub containing power strips. Again, please take one or two for your classroom needs. These can come in handy for students charging their devices.
About half of our students are cleared for bringing devices. Paper forms are available outside my office for students to pick up. You were given an updated approved list in your mailboxes on Wednesday. As students turn in their form, please mark them as cleared on your list and then turn in the green sheet outside my office or in my mailbox. I will keep them for the school year. Remember, students must have a signed form or a digitally acknowledged form in order to bring their devices to school.
Classroom Technology Spotlight
Katie MacDonald is our spotlight techy teacher of the month! She has her students in eClass for Social Studies content daily. Examples of her technology integration include having her students use web tools to create products that help them process or review content and using her eClass page as the go-to spot for her students and all her teaching content. She uses the discussion and the dropbox tools with her students to decrease the use of paper and allow students to work anywhere anytime. Katie also uses her Mimio to model note taking and to capture classroom discussions, as well as model how her students can navigate their portal pages and the activities she has them working on.
