Attack On Pearl Harbor
On December 7, 1941, American naval base, Pearl Harbor, in Honolulu, Hawaii was attacked by hundreds of Japanese fighter planes. The attack lasted two hours and destroyed nearly 20 American vessels, which included eight battle ships and almost 200 airplanes. Additionally, more than 2,000 soldiers died and 1,000 soldiers were wounded (Networks, 2015).
United States of America Declares War on Japan
President Franklin Roosevelt announced today that the America has declared war on Japan. During President Roosevelt’s radio broadcast he stated, "Yesterday, December 7, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." American troops have already begun to take action! Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia ordered the rounding up of Japanese nationals and antiaircraft batteries are being set up on Long Beach and the Hollywood Hills (Networks, 2015)
