Staff Update
Barbara Bush Elementary | Instruction & Information
December 19, 2019
We are a semester into a school year that seems to be flying by. With each year and each group of kiddos, things seem to move ever more quickly for me. I love this work (even, and sometimes especially, on the difficult days). The work is all the more special because I get to engage in it with a group of dedicated, passionate educators.
I believe that the work we do is the most important work in any society. That you have chosen to do it says a great deal about you. Thank you for making the choice to be formative parts of the lives of children. The work we do changes lives, communities, and nations. It can be draining. It can be exhausting. It is always vital!
My hope for each of you is that you have a peaceful, relaxing break. Take time to recharge and to enjoy the people and experiences that make you happy. Bush Elementary is composed of amazing people doing awesome things. Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of this community.
All my best for a happy holiday season and a wonderful new year,
--Jarod

Quick Read
This week, I'm sharing a couple of quick reads. I've read the first article a couple of times. There is always a new nugget of wisdom or item to trigger thinking each time I read it. The second link is a longer blog entry from Cult of Pedagogy (one of my favorite podcasts).
I hope you enjoy these quick reads and that they continue our collective mental wheels turning.

January 6 and January 7
January 6 is a work day. All teachers are at Bush. No required meetings will be scheduled this day. You may choose to work 7:00-3:00; 7:30-3:30; or 8:00-4:00.
January 7 is a campus professional learning day. We will have an agenda covering a number of topics. The agenda is still a work in progress, but it should be emailed to everyone before January 7. The time for the day is 8:00-4:00. Breakfast will be served beginning at 7:30. We will have a staff picture at 8:15. Lunch will be on your own from 11:30-1:00.
Attendance Audit
District internal auditors will begin conducting audits of attendance documents and procedures after the break. Please remain focused on taking accurate attendance at the specified time. If you have questions about attendance, please check with Brenda or Jarod.
Remember that attendance drives funding. We need to be accurate, and we need to be on time. As we discussed earlier this year, the district can lose funding if attendance is taken at the incorrect time. Our attendance time is 9:00 each morning.

Wednesday Afternoon Meeting Schedule
The Guiding Coalition recently discussed our Wednesday afternoon meetings and decided the following schedule will be used beginning in January. Meetings will be on posted on the Bush Staff Calendar, but you should assume a meeting is taking place unless it is specifically announced that we are not meeting.
1st Wednesday: Faculty Meeting
2nd Wednesday: Planning/Team Meetings | Committees will meet as needed.
3rd Wednesday: Planning/Team Meetings | Faculty meetings can occur this week.
4th Wednesday: Planning/Team Meetings
5th Wednesday: No Meeting
Planning/Team Meetings do not have to take the form of a collaborative team meeting. For questions about the Wednesday afternoon schedule, talk with a Guiding Coalition member.
