Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Just a reminder that we will be having library book checkout this Tuesday, please remind your child to bring their library books back this week. Reading
We will be preparing for our third unit in Reading: Interpretation Book Clubs
This week we will be able to: understand the job "setting" plays in a story; find evidence in the text to support our thinking; make sense of figurative language.
On Friday, we will be beginning our third unit. We will be able to add up all the parts/all the elements of a story.
Writing
We will be beginning our third unit in Writing: The Literary Essay: Writing about Fiction.
This week we will be able to: close read to generate ideas about a text; pay attention to the characters' traits, motivations, struggles, changes, and relationships; elaborate using prompts; test possible thesis statements to find the perfect fit for our Literary Essay; and retell parts of a story as part of our details in supporting our thesis.
Math
This week we will be able to: solve a problem that requires converting units of weight; solve a problem that requires converting metric units of liquid volume; solve word problems involving converting larger to smaller units of measurement of length, weight, mass and liquid volume; and complete the Lesson 13 Quiz.
Science
This week we will be able to: explore how solid rock breaks apart into smaller pieces in a process called weathering; and learn about the types, causes and dangers of landslides.
