Otter Families,
Thank your for scheduling time to meet with classroom teachers. Education research shows that a strong school/family connection is helpful to children and their learning. With that in mind, teachers are always looking for ways to partner with families. One way we can partner is to align our values. At John Rogers, we take care of ourselves, we take care of each other and we take care of our school!
As cold and flu season kicks off, please keep children home if they've had a fever within the past 24 hours. Once they are fever free without medication for 24 hours, they can return to school. Additionally, if students have COVID, please contact the office. We will set you up with the most recent quarantine guidance.
Finally, please take time to read with our children. Reading in any language is important. Children who are lucky enough to know multiple languages benefit from hearing their parents speaking in multiple languages too. Please read to them in Tigrinya, Amharic, Oromo, Mandarin, Spanish, English or any language you know at home.

Are you good with a needle & thread?

Help the classroom!
JR PTA is looking for volunteers to be Raft Captains (the JRE equivalent of room parents). We are hoping to have 1-2 parents per class. We need raft captains specifically for these classes:
- (third grade) Hashmi and Clemons
- (fourth grade) Osborn / Helm-McLeod
Like otters who wrap themselves in kelp to stay together, raft captains will build community by connecting gradeband and class families to the school and to each other. This may include planning gradeband playdates, organizing around Staff Appreciation week, recruiting chaperones for class field trips, and supporting other teacher requests. Time commitment is 1- 4 hours per month. Please email Kristy and Dragana if you are interested in being a Raft Captain: OtterRaftCaptain@gmail.com
Wishlist for our library!
Our library has a wishlist that Ms. Landis created. Let's help build our library book offerings!
