Attendance Matters
Is your student a Model Attendee?
What is a Model Attendee?
- A student who attends at least 96% of the time (absent no more than 8 out of 180 days) OR
- A student who improved their attendance from the previous school year by at least 3%
Did you know?
- Each school's attendance contributes to our Federal Accountability Report Card rating
- In the 2017-18 school year, only 76.2% of students at South Elementary were Model Attendees
- Attendance/Chronic Absenteeism, even as early as kindergarten, is an early warning indicator that a student is at risk of dropping out of school in the future.
- Poor attendance can influence whether your child will read proficiently by the end of third grade
- See below for some helpful websites and research pertaining to the importance of regular school attendance
Positive Male Role Models Needed!
On March 21, 2019, Sheltering Wings will enlist 550+ male volunteers to go into each Hendricks County elementary school classroom to read a book that focuses on important character traits such as support, positive identity and commitment to learning. Interested readers will be sent a link to complete a form that goes directly to Safe Hiring Solutions for a background check (at no cost).
Please text "Men Read" to 31996 or call 317-386-5062 for more information.

Student Email Accounts
When a student enrolls at Danville Community School Corporation, they are assigned an email account linked to their student profile. While these email accounts are utilized much more often in high school, the rapid growth of technology and its benefits in regards to education mean the accounts may be utilized in lower grade levels. Student email accounts are structured as a student's complete name with @danville.k12.in.us. For example, johnsmith@danville.k12.in.us. Here are some ways your students’ email account may be utilized by teachers: The accounts allow student access to monitored Learning Management Systems, such as Schoology. This innovative system will allow students in upper-grade levels to receive and turn in assignments, receive classroom announcements, collaborate with classmates and take online assessments. Additional information will be shared with families as Schoology is implemented in varying degrees during the next school year. The accounts are also a necessary part of the creation of Google Suite for Education accounts which give them access to word-processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. These tools allow students to create classroom assignments and teachers to share classroom materials with students. Some important factors to keep in mind regarding your students’ email account:
In accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, or COPPA, students in grades K through 8 may only communicate within our district, while students in grades 9 through 12 may send and receive email outside our district. Students in grades K through 8 may communicate ONLY with Danville Community School Corporation staff and students for the purpose of education. No email communications will be sent or received from an outside source.
Student email accounts utilize filter technology that alerts school administration to any derogatory language. Similar systems also prevent students from visiting websites that may be harmful to them. These account filters are in place on student devices both at school and when a student brings a school device home.
Parents are allowed access to these student accounts. Students who utilize their accounts regularly should know their password. If they do not, passwords are linked to a student’s profile in Infinite Campus and your student’s school can provide this information on request.
