January STL Teacher Proud Feature

The City of St. Charles School District is excited to take part in the “STL Teacher Proud” campaign, an effort to highlight the amazing teachers who choose to serve the St. Louis community and inspire others to join the noble profession of teaching. This month, we are highlighting SCW teachers Yolanda Curry and Jeremy Jackson.

Yolanda is a counselor for SCW who also sponsors and helps out with several clubs such as MAC Scholars, Homework Academy, ACT Bootcamp and others.

Jeremy Jackson is the Industrial Technology teacher at SCW and an assistant coach of the girls varsity basketball team. Jeremy sponsored and organized the school's first-ever homecoming service project, raising money to provide 5,800 meals for Kids Against Hunger.

Thank you to Yolanda, Jeremy and all of our SCSD teachers for making a difference in our community!

St. Charles Adult & Community Education celebrates 80 years of success

St. Charles Adult & Community Education (ACE) celebrated their 80th anniversary with an open house on Thursday, January 12! The ACE staff and instructors, ECC (Early Childhood Center), and PAT (Parents as Teachers) were on hand. The 80-year history began in 1943 when America was in the middle of World War II and rationing. Many men were serving our country, and women in St. Charles needed training for welding and other factory jobs vacated by men. With that in mind, ACE began providing career training in St. Charles for these wartime positions. Today, they offer over 100 career and enrichment courses and are making a difference in the lives of many.

After surviving numerous recessions and the recent setbacks from the COVID-19 pandemic, the ACE program is incredibly grateful for the quality training and instruction provided by their top-level teachers, both past and present.

ACE is looking to the future with energy and commitment. It will continue to place a value on skill building, focusing on workplace success skills for the changing job market and addressing the need for training and retraining. These efforts will support resilience within the family, at work, and in local communities.

HMS students code to create projects

HMS students in Mrs. Stubits' Project Lead the Way classes followed the design process to build and program a physical computing solution while collaborating with a team. They were given the choice to create a wearable device that increases safety after dark, an interactive art display, or a device that uses a motor to dispense objects.

The students did an amazing job of creating their projects!

SCW players to perform 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'

February 2nd-4th at 7PM the SCWest Players will be performing A Midsummer Night's Dream. A play of love and mix ups, this is a classic tale. Tickets will be sold at the door $7 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens or children 12 years or younger. Cash or check can be accepted! (there is mild language and innedundo within the show -the script is widely available online for review before bringing young children).

ECC featured in MNEA magazine

Our very own Early Childhood Center was recently featured in the MNEA's magazine "Something Better" in an article highlighting early childhood education trends and programs in the area. Congrats to all the wonderful people over at the ECC who make it a truly special school!
