Hi Huskies! Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!
Our theme this year continues to be "Huskies are LEADing the Way!" This theme represents our campus being a Leader in Me School, where we will empower our students and staff to live by the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. We all have a leader within us!
If you are new to Hearne Elementary School this year, we welcome you to our Hearne Family with open arms and a huge smile! If you are returning to our campus, we welcome you back to a new and exciting school year! We've missed you so much. We love watching our Huskies grow!
This year, Mr. Serpas and I will be the administrators at Hearne. Join the Hearne Staff on Monday, August 7th for a Husky Meet and Greet where you will be able to meet your child's teacher to start the year! There will be fun activities, music, and more! We look forward to seeing you!
Our amazing teachers have been working this summer to prepare for your students return! Parents are invited to come to the classroom on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 9, 2023. Please arrive early and park safely along Rio Bonito Road. Please be patient with first day procedures. On the second day of school, students will walk to their classroom on their own. We allow parents to walk to the classroom only on the child's first day. We want our Huskies to be independent and get into the routine of following campus procedures.
Parents, we need your help to make this year successful. Our partnership is essential! If you haven't done so yet, please:
- Log into the Alief ISD Home Access Center and update your contact information with us. You can access it here: https://aliefhac1.aliefisd.net/HomeAccess/Account/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2fhomeaccess%2f
- Sign up for your child's teacher communication system through Remind 101 or Kinvolved. All teachers will make contact with you no later than Friday, August 4th. If you do not hear from your child's teacher, please contact us at 281-983-8333.
- Throughout the year, check your student's agenda/planner daily for updates and reminders from our campus and classroom. We will send home a Thursday folder each week with important flyers for you to review. Our Family-School Compact is included in the agenda planner and will help everyone play a role in your child's success this year. A signed copy will go home and will need your signature to start the year.
- Follow us on Twitter and Facebook! @hearnehusky. Post your tweets for back to school and throughout the year. We want to celebrate all the great things our Huskies are doing!
These simple steps will make a big difference in supporting your child's learning this year as we work together to help ALL students reach college and career readiness.
To make sure you stay informed, you will receive a weekly newsletter (like this one) with updates and reminders to the cellphone and email you have listed in Home Access Center.
Please read our newsletters carefully so you are prepared. Each grade level newsletter will be linked below to help you stay informed with your child's specific grade level needs as well. This year our grade level newsletters will be published monthly.
Hearne Elementary School has a long, proud tradition of academic success, grounded in a family atmosphere. I look forward to the exciting journey we will have during the 2023-2024 school year!
If you need anything, please let us know so we can support you and your family.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Johanna Sanchez
Principal

KINDERGARTEN RELEASE GUIDELINES
If your kindergarten student will ride a school bus home and you want him/her to be met at the bus stop by you or a guardian, the following items must take place.
- You must fill out a Kindergarten release form and specify the student must be met.
- You must return the Kindergarten release form to the school office.
- The school office will then issue a Bright name placard to the parent/guardian.
- The Bright name Placard is the Only Way a parent/guardian can receive their kindergarten child at the bus stop if you checked that you want him/her to be met at the bus stop by you or a guardian. If you did not get a Bright Name Placard you should contact your school immediately to get one before the first day.
- If you or your child's guardian fail to show the Bright Placard to the school bus driver the student WILL NOT be released at the bus stop. The student will be returned to the school where the parent/guardian will have to come and pick him/her up.
Please make sure to carefully read the entire contents of the NEW Kindergarten release form to familiarize yourself with these guidelines.

Back to School Campus Procedures!
Student Arrival Locations
Our building opens at 7:15 AM each day.
Breakfast is free for all students until 7:50 AM.
Breakfast and Lunch
All students in grades Kinder to 4th that choose to eat breakfast will need to arrive between 7:15 AM and 7:50 AM.
All classrooms have an assigned lunch time. Please speak with your child's teacher or call the front office for questions regarding the times.
Our doors will open at 7:15 AM for breakfast, which is free for all students. Staff members will be stationed throughout the building to assist students as they head to breakfast or their teachers' classrooms. Our hallways are one-way hallways at this time.
- If your child will be coming by car, parents should utilize the car rider line and remain in their vehicle. Students should be able to open their own door and exit the vehicle. We will have staff stationed down the car rider line and on their path to breakfast to help as needed!
- Bus riders will be dropped on the side of the building as usual and staff will assist them as they go through the hallways.
We are asking all parents to be patient in the drop-off line as we expect the line to move more slowly than in previous years. We will not count tardies the first week of school as long as we still have cars in line and students are in the building by 8:00AM. Please help us out by having your child ready to exit the car.
For our little ones, you may want to practice how to unbuckle, put on backpacks, and open the car door. All students will need to exit the car on the passenger side.
Please make sure your child arrives to school prepared so they can get to their classrooms quickly.
Thank you for partnering with us to make this year the best one yet!
Dismissal Procedures
Dismissal begins at 3:20 PM.
Students will be released in this order:
- Bus Riders
- Daycare
- Walkers
- Car Riders (please expect delays)
All car riders will receive a number tag for all students and siblings. This must be visible and hanging for all vehicles. If you do not have a car rider tag or skip the car rider line, this will cause delays.
