Gray's Kiddos
The Happenings of Room 18.
Friday, February 5th
February is here!
It seems like 2016 is clipping along on break neck speeds! I can't believe it is already February! Thank you so much to those that were able to attend our DIA trip with us. It was amazing! The kids loved it!
Mark your calendar!!! Our Henry Ford Rouge Tour/Greenfield Village trip is on the calendar for June 6th. The trip will cost $15 per kiddo. Families that have memberships will just have to pay for busing on this trip and give a copy of your membership card. This is another trip that has no limit to the number of parent volunteers. Parents will have to provide their own transportation to the Henry Ford - more details will come as we get closer!
Mi-Star & missing work! I have opened up reading to you and the kids as well in MiStar. Please be checking those for missing work. I promise to get better about having the grades updates! I will not be hounding the kids for missing work in math or reading. I will let the kids now about missing work in the other subject areas. Please get in the habit of checking mistar. I don't want you or the kiddos to stress about it, but checking for missing work is going to be something they will HAVE to do next year.
M-Step Test Results - those are in your child's Friday Folders today!
Book Order/Book Coupon - Each kiddo has a coupon for a free book if they spend a certain amount of money (I think it is $10). The coupon is in their Friday Folder...as well as more book orders. Book order are due Friday 2/12 - I probably won't put in the order until Monday though!
Wish List-
- Pencils - we are almost out of pencils - I think they are part beaver!?! :)
- I'm looking for a tall lamp to add to the classroom - Let me know if you have a tall one hanging out in your house that you would love to get rid of!
Valentines -
We will be having a mellow valentines on Friday, Feb 12th. We will be watching, Minions, it is rated PG. Please let me know if you would prefer to not have your child watch this. We have a second option (Inside Out). Please see the note I sent earlier this week about the specifics!
Thank you so much! Your kiddos make me amaze me daily. Sometimes they make me smile and giggle and other times they drive me crazy (like yesterday!) But I love them dearly and I am so blessed to get to spend my days with them!
Have a great weekend!
Melanie

Curriculum
Reading -
We are wrapping up the novel Bud Not Buddy! The kids have really enjoyed learning about Bud. This last week they worked together to create posters to show how Bud is proactive! They are hanging up on our hallway bulletind board.
Writing-
We are working on our opinion/persuassive writing unit. Kids have picked their topics and have developed the 3 reasons to support their topic. Next week we will begin writing those paragraphs.
Math -
We are continuing with Unit 5 in math. The kids have been doing a great job with double digit multiplication. Some kids still need some extra practice at home. Our test is next Wednesday. We will start the study guide on Friday, and then on Tuesday the kids will get to tailor the study time to meet their needs.
Science -
We are working on our animal adaption unit right now. Kids are learning about different adaptations. Later this week we will be doing an opposable thumb activity to help us realize how important our thumb is to us!
Social Studies -
We are learning about the midwest region. Their test is on January 22. They do have their flashcards!
