March Updates SCCPS COVID Gudiance
UPDATES
SCCPSS has remained committed to listening to health professionals and utilizing a thoughtful approach for the implementation of our safety protocols to include the use of layered mitigation strategies and making appropriate adjustments to account for the changing conditions of the pandemic.
- Based on declining transmission rates within our schools and community, and the high level of vaccinations among our staff, we have decided to move to optional face coverings (Mask Optional) starting on March 1, 2022, for all students and staff while inside any school or facility.
- The federal face covering mandate for students and drivers regarding school transportation is still in effect. Anyone on a school bus must wear face coverings while being transported in order to comply with the federal mandate.
- While face coverings will be optional, we strongly encourage staff and students to consider the use of a mask while indoors. The CDC has recently indicated that the use of masks while indoors in areas of high transmission (CTI over 100) is recommended.
Staff will continue to monitor positivity rates for Covid-19 and make appropriate adjustments in the spirit of safety to ensure our schools remain open and operational. The District will respond to positive COVID cases and may implement quarantine protocols when necessary. This infographic is provided for additional information. Visit our Health And Safety page at sccpss.com for more information on quarantines and close contacts.
**Those returning from isolation or quarantine will be required to wear a well-fitting mask per public health guidelines.

Gulfstream Internship - Apply Now
The Gulfstream Internship program is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn and use skills that build on their interest in their desired career field. Internship areas include engineering, business, marketing, accounting, human resources, logistics, warehousing, and more. This internship is very competitive – with students competing with other students from across the region. Students applying for the Gulfstream Internship should be mindful of the following:
- · Islands High School junior or senior during the 2022/2023 school year
- · Student must have reliable transportation to and from work at Gulfstream is required
- - With the student driving each day
- · Must be able to have Work-Based Learning each day for both 3rd and 4th blocks
- · Students are expected to work 20 hours per week.
Please be advised that Work-Based Learning does not work for everyone’s schedules. Since this is an internship (with students being required to be at work each day during their work schedules), this does not always work with student extracurricular schedules. Practice and performance for school sports teams, choir, band, drama, clubs, etc. are problematic due to traveling to or having events during your internship hours. If you participate in any these activities, consider applying for Work-Based Learning instead.
Interested students should see Ms. Adkins in room 314 for an information packet.

UPDATE: SCCPSS Athletic COVID Testing
The District has remained committed to following health guidance and taking precautionary steps to ensure COVID related disruptions are minimized. Specific to athletics, this work includes the regular monitoring of transmission rates for potential adjustments based on the nature of close contact activity, weighed against the indoor vs. outdoor environment for competition. Based on the current downward trend of CTI numbers in our area coupled with the decreased number of positive cases identified through weekly COVID testing, and the fact that our spring athletic activities are conducted primarily outdoors, a decision has been made to modify the SCCPSS athletic COVID testing guidelines.
Please note the following adjustments:
TESTING:
- High school basketball and cheer will continue to test weekly beginning February 22, 2022, until they are eliminated from competition through either the regional or state tournaments.
- Based on the conditions listed above and the outdoor nature of Spring sports, weekly testing will no longer be required for these activities.
