A Message from Dr. Mitzner
Unity Day – Wednesday, October 23, 2019 – Wear Orange
Tays Junior High is UNITED for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Students will pledge their unity by signing their grade level banner during lunch.
Make it ORANGE and make it end! What are your true colors when it comes to showing that you believe that all youth should be safe from bullying? Come together in one giant ORANGE message of hope and support, WEAR AND SHARE ORANGE to color our nation, and even the world, visibly showing that our society believes that no child should ever experience bullying.
We encourage your student to take a photo in our life size bulletin board and be the I in KIND! Post it on Twitter or Facebook and spread the kindness. @TaysJrHigh
Our school was ranked at #6 in the Houston area. See the ratings here.
Tonight we have 7A & 8A football playoff games! We clinched the 7B Championship at Undefeated Champs! Picture below! Great season to all our volleyball and football players!

Dr. Kris Mitzner

PTSA TACO 'BOUT A PARTY! NEW DATE!!!!
Taco ‘bout a Party! We are throwing a taco party for the Tays teachers and staff on Tuesday, October 29, and we need your help cooking, baking, providing supplies and working the day of the event. Please see the sign-up below for how you can help! Thank you from the Tays Hospitality Team!
SAVE THE DATE! - Tays & Texans Care! Join us for a community service night. Tuesday, NOVEMBER 12, 2019, doors open @ 5:45 PM
Tays & Texans will be joining efforts to make a difference with Tays Junior High HUDDLE FOR 100! It will be our first ever volunteer community event.
The event is part of a nationwide effort to encourage volunteering for all age groups. We have partnered with five wonderful charities – all of which encourage entire families to become involved in helping our local community. Our families will be making care kits for our military through Operation Gratitude, seed balls for Katy Prairie Conservancy, dog toys for Citizens for Animal Protection, and activity books for sick children through DoSomething.org.
A speaker from Compassion Katy will kick-off the event, followed by our mystery Texans speaker(s)!
Bring your whole family and siblings to this amazing event, where you can really make a difference with these hands-on activities.
Watch for more information and a pre-registration form coming later this week.

FROM THE LIBRARY
As part of the library’s Titans Read Program, Tays students and staff are participating in the fall reading challenge that began on October 7th. Mr. Grelle, our 6th grade AP, has agreed to allow us to use his height to motivate all Titans to read more this year!
A life size poster of Mr. Grelle is posted outside the library with a “height chart.” Color coded (by grade level) labels will be placed on the height chart to represent the books we have read.
Through December 6th, students will scan the appropriate QR in the library or in English teachers’ classrooms each time they finish a book. The English class that reads and submits the most books per grade level will enjoy a treat at lunch. Let’s see how many times we can read Mr. Grelle’s height!
YEARBOOK 2019-20
COUNSELOR CORNER
October is Bully Prevention Month – Wear Blue on Monday
Each week Tays is challenging our students to a kindness task. This week we asked students to put down their devices at lunch and have a conversation. Conversation starters were displayed during lunch to help guide the students.
Spreading Kindness Bingo
Next week students can participate in our Kindness Bingo Challenge. Bingo cards can be picked up during lunch next week. Once students have completed the act of kindness they will mark it out on their bingo card. The completed bingo card can be turned in to the counselor’s office by Friday, October 25 @4:00. Cards will be randomly drawn for an Ice Cream Surprise.
TUTORIAL SCHEDULE
Tutorials will be offered Monday through Friday. Students may attend tutorials with any grade level teacher - it does not have to be their classroom teacher.
Students are expected to enter through the front doors a 8:10am. Students are welcome to attend any teacher's tutorial within their grade level. Students are responsible for their own transportation to tutorials.
Afternoon Tutorials:
There is not a sign-up for afternoon tutorials, but if students wish to attend, they must be in the teacher's classroom by 4:00. These sessions will end at 4:25 and students will need to be picked up in front of the school in the circle drive.
Please click here for our schedule.
