Principal's Note
Dear Families,
As we head toward the Thanksgiving holiday I am reflecting on my grateful list. I feel grateful every day to work at Sexton Mountain. I have an opportunity to work with amazing educators who share their passion for learning with children every day. I get to watch your children grow and learn over the years. I appreciate the trust your family has given us to care for your child. It is a joy and pleasure. I hope you are able to find time over the Thanksgiving break to spend time with your loved ones and enjoy being together.
I want to address a concern some parents have expressed about limited access to the building during student school hours (8:15-3:05). Different schools have different policies -- I am on the conservative side when it comes to student safety. I feel strongly that when you drop your child off at school you are trusting us to keep them safe. In order to do that I need to know who is in the building at all times and that they have completed their volunteer background check. This year volunteering is back and there are opportunities to help out during the day. We love our volunteers. We want you to feel welcome. If you have something to drop off for your child or need support from the office, ring the doorbell and staff will come help you. Thank you for your understanding.
Last weekend we had three separate vandalism events at Sexton Mountain. Two were break-ins with damage to portables and music equipment; the third was graffiti on the playground. We are working with Beaverton police, and we we now have security footage. We ask that if you are at the playground or out walking your dog and see suspicious activity at Sexton on the weekends, please call the police on their non emergency line. (503-629-0111)
The District is beginning an Attendance Campaign. District wide regular school attendance is at an all time low. Here at Sexton in the first 21 days of school our attendance rate was 83%. This is significantly lower than past years. The point of the campaign is to stress the importance of school attendance. Concepts build on each other and students need practice to master new skills. Chronic absences keep students from learning to their potential. If students have covid, vomiting or have a fever they need to stay home. But if other things are preventing your child from attending regularly, please reach out to Sierra Lowe (SME counselor) or Natalie Colbert (SME social worker) for help. We want to support your child and family to establish a routine for academic success.
If you have any questions please call or stop by. Office hours are 8:00-4:00, Monday-Friday.
Zu Zu Acrobats Assembly
This was an amazing way to kick off our assemblies for the year. The acrobats are from Tansania and taught us how to say hello in swahili, "Jumbo" This was an incredible show. This assembly was paid for by the PTC. Thank you PTC!
Sexton Mountain Elementary Resource Survey
At Sexton Mountain Elementary and Beaverton School District we want to make sure all student’s social-emotional, academic and physical needs are met. In an effort to do that, we have created a google form that serves two purposes.
The first purpose is to help us connect you with needed supports this holiday season and/or school year.
The second is to see if there are families or individuals who are interested in donating or providing support.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to getting to know you all throughout the year.
Additionally, if you need additional support please feel free to reach out to our:
Social Worker Natalie Colbert at natalie_colbert@beaverton.k12.or.us or
Counselor Sierra Lowe at sierra_lowe@beaverton.k12.or.us

Volunteering at Sexton Mountain
Volunteering information: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/communications-community-involvement/volunteer
This year each grade level will go on at least one field trip. The PTC pays for the cost of the busses. In addition classroom will have different celebrations, presentations, or volunteering events. To visit the building during student hours 8:15-3:05 you need to have a volunteer background check and be registered as a volunteer in Better Impact. I would encourage you to register now to prevent any delay before the special event. Once you register with Better Impact, if you log in once a year you will be set to volunteer for the duration of your child's school career. The teachers, students and I are thrilled to have special events back, thank you for volunteering.
Art & Culture Fair
The Art & Culture Fair was a huge success! Thank to all the volunteers and families that set up booths and shared dances with us.
