Hembree Highlights
October 16, 2020
Note from Mrs. Smith
YES! I have no other way to start this letter! This week was great. Students were here and the energy is electric. Carpool was our greatest hurdle especially in the afternoon, BUT we are getting better with that every day. Our carpool will be later this year as this is the last group called, so please anticipate a little later start time with a little later ending time.
If you want to have your student "walk" home with you, please make sure to do a transportation change. You may email hsestransportation@fultonschools.org by 12 noon each day. We are accepting emails to minimize contact and for ease of use for parents. When you use this email to let us know the transportation change, please also copy your child's teacher on it. We will follow up with the teacher, but it is helpful to keep them in the loop as well.
Dismissal Line-Up:
First Call: Bus Riders, Walkers (exit through by Front Desk), and Day Care
Second Call: Carpool
Third Call: Primetime
I am going to do some begging for just a moment. I normally won't beg, but we are in serious danger of losing our Title 1 funding for next year because we do not have enough participation in the Free/Reduced Lunch program. We earn money to support your child through this funding. Our parent workshops, Beth Dilworth our Title 1 Parent Liaison, computers, iPads, school supplies, and even a classroom teacher are all purchased with this money! Please help us maintain our Title 1 status to ensure the continued success of our school. You can help us by filling out an application! The application can be found at:
https://www.nlappscloud.com/Welcome.aspx?api=cd84984a747a827c242a6b1f5661da76#loaded
Thank you for your support with this!
I also want to take a moment to shout out our wonderful PTA. Some of the great work this week alone:
1) Business Partners were able to donate a beautiful bloodgood Japanese maple that was planted today to honor Lynne Smejkal, ESOL teacher.
2) Mask cases as a great surprise for our teachers and staff.
3) Donation of chips and drinks today for our staff luncheon.
4) Face shields for teachers in fun colors made by Roswell Firelabs.
5) PTA Grants also support with seat cushions for music, clipboards for second grade, power strips for classrooms, racetrack for STEM lab, science supplies for third grade, and many more things around the building.
Thank you PTA for taking care of our students and teachers every single day!
Stay Strong! Stay Positive! Stay Well!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

From Our PTA
Hi Families! Happy October!
Since we can’t celebrate Halloween as usual this year, we thought it would be fun to have a virtual costume contest! Email Ashley Russ a fun picture in your costume. It can be a new costume, one borrowed from last year, or you can be creative and pull together a costume from items around your house. Please email your picture to ashleyjruss@gmail.com by Friday, October 23rd. We will create a video of the entries to share with everyone and winners will be announced the week of Halloween. Best of luck!
Calling on Our Community!
Do you know someone who is a friend of Hembree Springs in the community? We would love for them to join our PTA and be a voice from the community! Our school theme this year is to speak up and speak out (Your Voice Matters). As part of this theme, we are encouraging community members to join us in conversations around advocating for our school children.
We are working to reach our goal of 30 community partner memberships by October 31st! Feel free to forward this link to family members or neighbors interested in supporting Hembree Springs and the local community.
