FLHS January 2018 Newsletter
Hello Fox Lane Students and Families,
It is hard to believe that the third quarter of the 2017-2018 school year is already here! As we quickly progress through the second semester, it is important for our students to remain fully focused and engaged in their education.
Please note the many key events that will be taking place at FLHS in the upcoming month:
- Junior Group Guidance begins on January 30 and will run through the 3rd Quarter. Topics within the sessions include scheduling, standardized testing, Naviance, researching colleges, college visits, letters of recommendation, the Common Application, college essay, mock interviews and other items.
- A reminder that the FLHS Guidance Department will he holding its Junior Parent Night on February 1, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the Fox Lane High School Mary Lou Meese Theater. Topics will include the college essay, the ACT & SAT, the Common Application, financial aid, letters of recommendation, college search guidelines and many other important items as we begin to prepare for the college application process. The event will feature a presentation by Davin Sweeney from the University of Rochester. In addition, there will be a Naviance program tutorial for parents from 6:00 to 6:45 PM in the Mary Lou Meese Theater prior to the event.
- Friday, February 2 will be a Superintendent's Conference half-day for students who will be dismissed at 10:20 am.
- Friday, February 9 from 8:00-9:00 AM, the FLHS Guidance Department will be hosting College and Coffee for junior parents in the FLHS Small Cafeteria. This is an informal parent discussion group regarding college planning (optional).
- February 10 (JUNIORS) ACT test date.
- February 16 (SENIORS): Local Scholarship packet due in Guidance.
- BCSD Mid-Winter Recess will be from February 19 through February 23. Students return to school on Monday, February 26, 2018.
- FLHSA will hold its monthly parent meeting on Tuesday, February 27 from 9:00- 10:00 AM in the FLHS Library ThinkSpace. School updates from Principal Miller and other important topics will be discussed.
