March....already?!?!?!
WOW! I can't believe it is March already! And wow...this is a BUSY month! It is March is Reading month! Second Trimester ends! Report Cards come home! DiA TRIP! Diversity Night! Science Fair! OH my!!
DIA Field Trip - All parents who signed up to go on our trip can go. We will be leaving school shortly after 9 am. Parents will need to provide their own transportation to the field trip. You are more than welcome to come to school and follow the bus or feel free to meet us there. Tomorrow I will be sending home information with chaperones with directions as well as were to meet us at the DIA.
Students will need to bring a completely disposable lunch with them on Tuesday!
March is Reading Month- A calendar with reading month activities is coming home with kids tomorrow! There are so many amazing things!!! Be sure to check it out.
NO NAME PAPERS: No name papers continue to be a major problem in our classroom. Two weeks we came up with a plan as a class. If a kiddo turns in a no name paper they will have to redo the paper completely. No more just putting their name on it and turning it in. No name papers will be recycled. Kids get a lot of reminders about putting their name on their papers.
MISTAR CHECKS - We will be getting back in the habit of completing mistar checks weekly. The missing work on those check will be do the MONDAY after the mistar check comes home. For example, kids did a mistar check today any missing work is due by Monday, 3/6. Any missing work not turned in will be marked as a zero and students will no longer be able to make up that assignment.
REMIND - If you have not signed up for our remind account please do so. Remind is a great way to get text messages from me about what is going on in our room.
Here is the link to join our remind - https://www.remind.com/join/d7832k
Headphones- If your kiddo doesn't have headphones, please send in a pair as soon as possible. We use the chrome books daily and often need the headphones!

Curriculum Update
Reading -
We have been reading the novel, Jeremy Thatcher Dragon Hatcher. It is a wonderful fantasy story about a boy who is responsible for hatching a dragon. We have been working on figurative language as well as context clues.
Writing-
We are hoping to have our persuasive writing unit wrapped up next week. Kids are writing a persuasive letter using 2-3 strong reasons with supporting details. Watch out! You might be getting a letter!
Math -
Unit 7 is a huge unit for us. It is all about fractions. I jump around a lot in the math book in this unit. Kids know that they need to watch the planner board carefully. We have tackled basic fraction of problems as well as equivalent fractions. Next up is comparing fractions. Please check in with your kiddo on this unit as some might need some extra support at home.
Science -
Well, our plant unit was a success! The kids were able to grow Wisconsin Fast Plants and take them through the plant life cycle. We are currently talking about classification.
Social Studies -
We have wrapped up the southeast unit and the Midwest region is next! The Midwest states and caps test will be on Tuesday, March 21. Flash cards came home today!
Technology Reminders
With the start of the new year it is always good to review our Technology expecations. The kids and I have talked about these this week. But please take some time this weekend to talk about technology with your kiddo this week.
1. Children are only allowed to touch the chromebook that is assigned to them.
2. They should never give out their password to anyone but mom/dad.
3. Only search teacher directed websites and/or research topics.
4. Be on the website or app the teacher has directed and stay focused on that task.
4. Use two hands when carrying their computer from cart to desk and back. Chromebooks are kept in cart after school hours.
5. When in doubt, have a problem or anything questionable, ask/tell Mrs. Gray, or any other adult/teacher they are working with immediately.
6. All google accounts and chromebooks are district owned...checking history can occur through the district server.
7. Kids should log out of their google account at the end of each day.
8. No eating and/or drinking around chromebooks.
9. Students are not allowed to delete history.
I also suggest you checking your child's HISTORY in their google account settings. You can check their history by logging into their google account and then typing Control-H. This will bring up everything they have done on the computer (websites visited to even words that were searched.) I will be doing random checks at school as well.
Children need these reminders because they are young still and the internet can be a dangerous place. We want to practice responsible digital citizenship.
If students are not following the above guidelines they will be asked to put their chromebook away for the rest of the day.
Thanks much!
