Arrival of New Books

We are excited to announce there were 285 books added to the BMS Media collection this month. The books include subjects such as sports, autobiographies, suspense, fantasy, and much more.

AR Incentives

Students were so excited to begin receiving weekly AR incentives. Students were allowed to visit the "Phoenix Candy Store" and redeem items based on the number of AR points they received weekly. With their points, they were allowed to purchase items like Air Heads, Skittles, Blow Pops, Candy bars and much more.

Mrs. Baker also celebrated with a "Super Phoenix Pizza Celebration" Friday, February 5. Students that met their quarterly AR goal with an A average received a special invitation to participate. We had 33 participants and look forward to more students next quarter.

The Golden Phoenix goes to the homeroom with 100% AR participation and the highest average. I am so proud to announce that we had 64 % of our homerooms to have 100% participation this month. Last month's data showed we had 82 students that did not test. This month we only had 31 students out of 557 students not to test. Also, the overall schoolwide average increased by 2 points. Congratulations to everyone for a job well done.

This month's award goes to:

Mrs. Tyson's Homebase with a 90 average. They will receive "Phoenix Time" in the gym. Congratulations and keep reading!

We Love Our Library

February was love month and the students at BMS expressed their love for the BMS Media Center and reading. There were several activities planned throughout the month. There were two students that guessed the amount of "kisses" in the jar. They were Zebadiah Newkirk and Nicole Pratt. They divided the kisses and received a free book. Also, students and staff were encouraged to write things they love about the BMS Media Center. Some chosen responses are shown in the video below. Click on the Valentine Winners 2016 link below and enjoy the show.

Also, students were allowed to choose their favorite book, wrap it and place it in the special Valentine basket for their peers to chose and read. The theme used was: BOOKS ARE LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT IS INSIDE."

Big image

The Greenscreen room is complete and looks fabulous. Hats off to Mrs. Snow's homebase for collaborating with me to produce our first instructional motion picture! The students were studying ratios and proportions while incorporating technology, history and music by narrating the book Pathygorus and the Ratio by Julie Ellis, Illustrated by Phyllis Peacock. Please take a moment to view this production.

Digital Learning Day a Success

Digital Learning Day was a huge success at BMS. We had 3 special guests visit and observe the instructional technology in the classrooms. The students were actively engaged in digital tools like kahoot, coding, google docs, livebinders etc. Our guests were impressed with the student engagement and classroom management. Great job.
