Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
August 15th-19th
Welcome Back!!
Today has been a great first day of fourth grade! I am very excited about how wonderful this year will be. I hope your child came home with stories from class and names of new and old friends. This is my weekly update that will be sent home each Monday. Because of the different students I teach, it will contain overall homeroom information, as well as specific GT, Science, and ELA/Math information. Please refer only to the designated section that applies to your child. I hope to keep all information as organized and clear as possible. Thanks!

Upcoming Assessments and Assignments:
- Science: Tomorrow, we will begin covering the students' IANS (Interactive Notebooks) in class. If they do not finish, they will need to cover their notebooks with the pictures I give them by Wednesday morning. This week we will be learning about process skills and observations. Next Friday, the 26th, we will have a quiz on these topics. Students can use their Science IANS as a study guide.
- Social Studies: This week in Social Studies, students will be discussing the Ice Age, Woolly Mammoth, and the Land Bridge Theory. Next week students will have a quiz over this information. Please study their IANs nightly.
- Mrs. Thurston Math/ELA: This week in math, we will take a common assessment pretest and start working on place value and the three number forms. In ELA, we will set up our readers’ notebooks and learn about strong reading habits. In Writing, we will set up our writers’ notebooks with pictures and quotes that show or create memories for their writing. Students will be shown examples of this tomorrow! The writers notebooks will be due Monday.
- Ms. Harris GT Math/ELA: This week in ELA, we will start setting up our notebooks and begin using Jacob's Ladder passages/questions in class. In writing, students will be asked to cover their writing notebooks with pictures, symbols, quotes that would create memories for their writing. Students were given directions and examples in class. Notebooks are due Monday. In math, we will take a common assessment pretest and begin place value.
