English as a Second Language (ESL)

VIRTUAL-ESL Networking and Professional Development Meetings

The role of the English as Second Language (ESL) is evolving especially with supporting English Language Leaners (ELL) with the Common Core Standards. ESL teachers have had considerable training in such areas as second language acquisition, linguistics, language pedagogy and methodology, and language and literacy development. Content teachers can benefit from the guidance of ESL teachers to effectively teach ELs, who are at varying levels of English language proficiency to build content area skills.


During these networking sessions, the English as Second Language (ESL) teachers will learn the latest news from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, WIDA, PaTTAN, learn about effective instructional practices to support ELs in the content area classrooms, building collaboration with content area teachers, and acquire many resources to support literacy learning. Teachers will have a chance to network and share with other ESL teachers across the three county area and also invite an administrator, coordinator, and/or classroom teachers.


These workshop sessions will focus on the Four Domains of Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching and how it relates to the ESL teacher.



All workshop sessions will be virtual.

Deadline for registration is two days before each virtual session. If for some reason you cannot attend and do not cancel your registration before the day of the event you will be charged the full amount.
